Fushigi Yuugi, or "The Mysterious Play", as Pioneer Anime has titled the English version, is an 18-volume manga (er...think comic. In black and white. Read from back to front) penned by one Watase Yuu and published in Shojo Comics from 1992 to 1996. That series spawned a TV version of the same name, which ran for two seasons in 1995. The 52 episode series covered more or less the events written in the first 13 volumes of the manga. The remaining five manga volumes are covered in a six-part OAV release (I deny the existance of the first OAV).
Now, your friendly neighborhood web author is a deprived soul and at the time of this writing I only own vol. 8 of the manga, so I don't know a whole bleedin' lot about it *sweatdrop*. This is evident by the almost total lack of manga information and images on my site. But I do own all 13 taped volumes of the TV version of the anime (as fansubbed by Tomodachi Anime), as well as all 6 episodes of the OAV that matters.
In July 1998, Pioneer Animation announced that they have bought the distribution rights to the Fushigi Yuugi series in North America. This means that we fans will now be able to buy professionally dubbed or subtitled volumes of FY to own and enjoy. It also means that fansubs of the series are right out. But the rights to the OAVs have not
yet been bought, so snatch them up while you can!
Viz has also bought the rights to the FY manga and are releasing these in conjunction with Pioneer's tapes. So we will at last be able to enjoy the manga in our native tongue (for us English speakers, anyway ^_^).
Mucho Thankos to Tasuki no Miko and the Shrine of the Almighty Chicken of DOOM!, from whom I shamelessly swiped the above info. The correct stuff is from them, the totally bogus info is from me.

Your friendly neighborhood website author, the deranged and obsessed Nuriko fan... yes... it's true...*sigh*
Full Real Name: Marie Louise Lewis
Nicknames: Um... Personally I answer to Mary and Marie, Em, Emmers, and 'hey, you'; my pen names include Meri and JayLiz.
Age and Birthday: 23, born October 7, 1977
Birthplace: Takoma Park, MD., just outside the capital of Konan Country -- er, I mean the US ^_^. Moved with my family to Saskatchewan, Canada shortly thereafter, where I was raised and am still receiving my education
Family: Mother, father (am an only child)
Blood Type: A positive
Height: 152cm --> or, the short side of 5'0"
Hobbies: Surfing the net, anime, music and singing, studying religions, and hanging out with my friends just like anybody else.
Personality: An introspective person, I am usually shy with strangers, but once I feel I know you I'm quite good at opening up. I love to crack a good joke, and these are often at the expense of myself or others. Don't be alarmed by my choice of words; I usually don't take the time to tease someone I don't care for. Since I always try to see the good in people I can be naive at times and some have chosen to take advantage of this. Still, I never lose faith in the human spirit.
However, in time, my FY knowledge increased, as did my creativity levels, and I set out to make a pretty, unique site that people would want to visit (y'know, with actual content). The title, of course, is derived from a line in the title song of the series, and I chose it because I dedicate this site to Nuriko (my darling, if wishes came true). I wanted to make something worthy of him; beautiful, intelligent, and funny. I hope I succeeded on some level ^_^.
