Six Degrees of Separation or My Weird-Ass Connection to *Nsync
This is actually going to be kind of short, as I don't have any fascinating stories about me meeting *Nsync or anything like that. That would be quite impossible, as I live roughly half a world away and only have occasion to see them within the span of six weeks every year--when I visit New York City. This period, unfortunately, is usually from mid-April to the end of May, and ends just a few weeks before *Nsync starts making their summer appearances. This has happened no fail for the past four years, and the only time the boys and I have ever been in the same city, they were in Times Square doing a spot for TRL and I wasn't even mildly interested. Ah, me.
But enough of that. This interesting little explanation centers mainly around my dad and his tendency to form the weirdest, most unexpected connections. He's a businessman, my dad is, and he meets all sorts of people when he does PR for his company, of which he is CEO. The list includes former VP Dan Quayle and the head of the CIA (I forget what his name is...). Anyway, I never cared much to remember, but on one particular occasion I had to gasp and hold my breath when he told me who he'd met.
It seems Lou Pearlman was in the country, having flown in on a private jet (holy mother of cheese, how much money did he steal from these people??). He was interested in meeting businessmen who would invest in a new boyband he was planning to form (I can't believe I know about Lou's secret dealings...) and he just happened to be introduced to my father. They talked over drinks and my dad didn't even realize who he was talking to the whole time, didn't even realize that the rather porky man sitting in front of him had once screwed over two of his daughter's most passionate obsessions...
Well, lemme tell ya, I just about fainted when my dad casually mentioned he'd met "some guy" named Lou Pearlman. Of course, as *Nsync hates his guts and he's been blacklisted by the group ever since that nasty legal affair, this isn't much help in getting me to meet them. But it's still pretty cool, eh? Lou has draped his fat arms around the *Nsync guys, he shook hands with my dad, and my dad tries to hug me all the time...any chance I've got some *Ngerms on me? *chuckle* Okay, I know, I'm loopy, you don't have to tell me...
