No Way Its Jay Henry The House of Steam

This week Jay Presents:
"Wanchese or Bust; BUST!"
or "Everyone MUST do a Sweeper!"
or "Sean of the Dead"
or "And Then There Was Shaub"
or "No Sleep till Brooklyn!"
or "Lucy's Homecoming"

On October 11th 2007 I left NYC and drove to Washington DC to go to court.
My case was continued, and so was the trip, well, sort of. You see,
that weekend was the Cornfest at the Wanchese Bowl in Wanchese, NC, designed
and built by an old Richmond friend and skate bro, Mark Corbett. The Cornfest
is a yearly celebration and I believe it has something to do with Mark's
birthday. The only problem is that Wanchese is 455 miles from Brooklyn, 290
from DC, and still 190 from Richmond VA. I was planning on heading to
Richmond to get my estranged daughter Lucy(fir), she's a cat. I had to decide
if I would make it to Wanchese...

Everyone MUST do a Sweeper!

When I got to Fight Club on
Friday morning after court,
I found there to be a mini,
mini mini ramp, about 3 1/2
feet high, and 12 feet wide.
Dan had talked about making
the perfect ramp and this
was NOT it. Turns out this
was not it, and it was only
intended to serve as a
temporary skate structure
until the bowl and real ramp
were done. We worked all day
and night, and drank beer the
whole time, laying cement and
skating the whole time. At
one point I decided that
Sweepers were manditory and
made everyone try them. Beau
was the only one who pulled
one aside from me, and his
was excellent! I took no
photos while I was there, so
I have included these
pictures of me, the Sweeper
Nazi, at Jeff Roening's old
ramp. I skated all the way
through Saturday night, and
although I couldn't talk Beau
into going to Wanchese with
me, I had to at least drive
down to Richmond on Sunday
morning.

LUCY - FIR

I got to Richmond on Sunday afternoon,
and called a few friends. It was a
relatively uneventful day, I just
needed to get my cat and look up a
few peeps.
Wanchese was out at this
point since I had to be at work the
next day.

Sean of the Dead

I caught up with some of
the boys and girls, and went to a
couple of the bars we used to frequent.
One thing led to another and the next
thing I knew it was Midnight, and I
was drunk, and couldn't find Lucy to
save my life. I decided I had to stay
another day, and would work remotely.
This way I could find Lucy and take her
back to Brooklyn. The next day I got
up, and went to Buddy's, a bar where
I knew the girls that worked there,
and knew they had wireless internet.
Just like you would expect in Richmond,
I ran into my old roomate, friend and
skate buddy,
Sean Harris. Sean was a
great street skater back in the day.
I remember one time I saw him coming
up the street from 3 blocks away
and I could tell it was him in a
second by his style. Another time we
were skating at this school, and he
skated up to a bench, backside ollied
into a 50/50 grind. That was a big
deal 15 years ago!

We talked for a few minutes about why
I was there, then we started drinking
as I worked remotely from the end of
the bar. Benjy showed up later, and
Mary, Melissa and Amy took good care of
us for the 9 hours we sat drinking,
eating and working there at Buddy's.
When I was close to being done, Benjy
got a call from Townsend, and she told
him she had Lucy!!! Benjy went and
grabbed her and we locked her in
Benjy's apartment. Then we went for a
drink at Bandito's which turns out
to be where Tony is having his birthday
party. Sean had told me our old friend
Al Shaub had moved back to town, so I
had to call him. Al showed up and we
talked about all the skate trips we
used to take around the East Coast back
in the day. Larry Glover, Al Shaub and I
used to road trip everywhere, man we
skated the hell outta shit! Al was such
a great skater, not to mention a great
guy. I remember he used to drop in
fakie from an axel stall on vert ramps
after he saw Brian Pennington do it, he
also learn every trick I did. It was so
great to see him after all these years
(like 10),
WELCOME HOME AL!!!

NO SLEEP TILL
BROOKLYN!

I ended up leaving
at 2:30 am, as
I anticipated
LUCY'S HOME
COMING
. I got home
@ 9:30, and had
to be @ work @ 11,
"not badge"! I'll
have to go to
Wanchese next year.
