Author's Notes: This fanfiction takes place during and after episode 22 of the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series, Asuka's mind-rape. This story was not intended to infringe on the rights of Gainax, ADV, or Viz. Thanks to all who helped inspire me to write this fic, Andrew Huang, Drakken Fyre, and Al-I-bus! This is a slight reworking and addition to the original Asuka's Plea, which might shed some light upon events in the sequel! Neon Genesis Evangelion-Adam and Eve: Chapter One-Asuka's Plea By Dr. Suekeichi Kaiton Shinji stood behind a NERV tape looking pitifully at an emotional Asuka, who was weeping and screaming at him to leave. Asuka stood in a small area of rooftop picketed with NERV tape, with images of her mother's suicide still fresh in her mind. Emotionally beaten, Asuka withdrew in upon herself, not accepting outside help or love. Subconsciously Asuka knew that she loved Shinji, loved his faults and his bravery, the idea had occurred to her after his battle with the 12th Angel. Now after her defeat and mind-rape she was a sobbing emotional wreck, hardly what Shinji expected from the self-proclaimed best Eva pilot; snapped back into reality, Shinji found that Asuka was asleep, exhausted from her sobs. Wrapping Asuka in a blanket, Shinji carried her back to their apartment. As Shinji entered he didn't bother to ask is anyone was home, Misato was still at NERV or at Kaji's; Shinji had notice how much longer Misato spent at Kaji's even though he had disappeared, still he would expect that. Hefting his burden to her room, Shinji lay her on the bed depressed the right wrist button, thereby releasing the air out of her plug-suit, and left. Asuka Langley Soryu, she was the only woman he knew but she was hardly forthcoming with anything but insults; Shinji had entertained the idea of asking her out but quickly changed his mind knowing full well the consequences. Shinji Ikari, Eva pilot, hero of NERV fell asleep immediately after lying down on his bed. Numerous hours later, Shinji awoke to a warm sensation pushed against his chest, he dismissed it until he could feel a pair of hands work their way around him. He jumped. As Shinji's mind came back on line he saw 1) Asuka was lying next to him 2) she was holding onto him 3) they were still in their plugsuits. After processing this data Shinji grew a sweatdrop and recalled this incident from the night before Israfel's destruction. Slowly deciding to lie back down he encircled Asuka absorbing her warmth, it was a pleasant feeling this sense of dependence, he could get used to this. "Shinji hold me." She tossed in her sleep, vestiges of her tears remained. Her golden red hair shimmered in the moonlight. Those simple three words were enough to send Shinji's mind right out the window. Did she love him? Why didn't she try to act kinder? These questions would have to wait because soon he had another crisis on his hands. "Shinji I'm cold, hold me, make me warm." She cuddled closer. Against all good judgement Shinji pulled the sheet over them and snuggled closer to the red haired beauty. Asuka snuggled closer and rested with her head just below his, Shinji could hear her low paced breath and the dull throb of her heartbeat. Did he love her? These words had never been associated with Asuka in his mind before, the untouchable woman. He knew that at school the only thing that kept all the boys at bay was her attitude, he himself was intimidated by it, then Asuka began to cry in her sleep. @@@ Asuka stood on a rooftop overlooking Tokyo 3. She was boxed into a square of NERV yellow security tape. Soon She was not alone; Hikari Horaki materialized in back of her. "Asuka, why do you push Shinji away?" "Because I hate him!!!!" "Why don't you talk to Misato?" "Because she stole Kaji away!!!" "Kaji never loved you...he used you to get closer to Misato." "No that's not true!!!" "Do you love Shinji?" "NO!!!!" "Fine then, I'll take him." Hikari turned to her side and Shinji appeared to take her arm, Hikari smiled, "Well Asuka, guess who took your man!" "NNNNNOOOOONNNOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Asuka bellowed at the top of her lungs and lunged at Horaki, but Hikari disappeared and Asuka went headfirst into her mother's swinging body. "AH!" Asuka swung around and began to weep, weep for her mother and Shinji; she had lost both of them, both of them! "Come die with me Asuka." The swinging body seemed to mock her. Shinji was the first boy to look beyond her looks and partially tear away her defenses, letting him see her true nature. He was kind, caring, considerate, and a bit nervous at times but the only man that had ever been so kind to her. Her mother was driven insane because of a botched Eva test and guilt for Asuka's upbringing, this guilt drove her to kill herself and Asuka was there for every moment. The scene changed to Eva 02's cage; Ritsuko and Maya appeared to her right. "Pathetic! Your scores lower than a beginner's." "NO! "Dr. Akagi's right, a score of 0.000000000% is not fitting of your stature." "NO!" "Wipe her records Maya, take her off the roster!" "NO!" "Yes right away." They disappeared, and Commander Ikari materialized. "I have no need of trash, get out!" "NO!" The room changed from the Eva's heavy constraints in gray and green, to the deck of the pride of the UN Fleet, "Over the Rainbow." Asuka la in her plugsuit upon the sloshing makeshift docking slats; the plugsuit was loose giving Ryouji Kaji an eyeful. "Kaji-san?" "What Asuka?" "Do you love me?" "No." "Why?" "Because you're immature and arrogant, thoughtless and brash, no one would love one such as that." "You can't mean that!" "I do." Asuka jerked upright and pulled open the top of the plugsuit exposing her breasts, she was overdeveloped for her age but Kaji seemed not to be impressed. "Don't you want me Kaji?" "I said no!" He swatted Asuka away like a gnat; she splashed into the pinkish coolant covering the room. Asuka struggled to stay above but was dragged down by the thick fluid, her kicks powerless, her efforts futile. Kaji turned his back to her and began to walk away, as he reached the entrance arch; Hikari, Ritsuko, Maya Ibuki, Gendo Ikari, Misato, Rei and Shinji appeared. "I'll take Shinji off your hands Asuka! He doesn't deserve you!" Hikari had her hands all over Shinji, caressing his soft skin. "Pathetic!" Ritsuko gave her a look of pure vehemence. "Test scores show that Asuka's synch ratio is under 0.00000%" Maya burned her test score printouts. "You disappoint me." Ikari's eyes glared, smashing her bravado to pieces. "I'll take care of Kaji for ya!" Misato glomped onto Kaji and kissed him. "...." Rei's red orbs focused on Asuka as if draining her oxygen supply. "Do you love me?" Shinji's pleading haunted eyes stared wistfully through her. Asuka sank to the bottom of the holding tank, with her air running out , Was her last thought before darkness seeped into the edges of her vision. @@@ Shinji was in a sad situation. He wanted to hold Asuka in his arms, hold her tight, comfort her in this time of need; but all he could do was stare blankly into her eyelids, his mind warning him of the possible dangerous consequences of that action. She really was beautiful...if only she were only a little more nice, her attitude was what kept most men at bay; her personality was lacking but Shinji could see that all she needed was some one to depend upon. Asuka rolled in her sleep, the white sheets getting rolled around her slim thighs; Shinji found her the most attractive at her most vulnerable. In her mind the dream was fading, she was dying at the bottom of the coolant tank the pink fluid blotting out her life. Thick, heavy liquid encased her body as the menagerie of individuals continued their vicious examination of her psyche, pointing out every last fault, every last mistake she had ever made. She awoke with a start causing Shinji's heart to explode. She viewed her surroundings and came to the conclusion that she was in Shinji's room, but why? Shinji recovered quite quickly and released his hold around her waist and came into full face to face contact with Asuka's. "I, I, I...um...well...that is..." He stuttered, her breath blew across his face causing his body to break out into goosebumps, she realized that she was holding onto him. With a start she ran out of the bed, out the door, and out of their lives. Misato was pushed out of the way as Asuka sped out the door with a small piece of luggage, her face stained with tears. Two Years Later... Asuka Langley Soryu left the Nagoya-4 municipal High School promptly at two- thirty. Following her normal routine she worked for three hours at her job then went to her one-bedroom apartment to cry herself to sleep. She walked into the door and lay in bed thinking of the past. The past...all she every thought about now was Shinji Ikari, his face engraved upon her mind and memory as the only man to be kind to her, loved her. Two years ago she had fled from NERV and the object of her desire ran because she could not deal with the idea of depending upon someone. While those memories were positive, many negative ones flashed through her mind: The mind rape, the failure, and the doll. After taking off her uniform she realized how much like Rei she had become, she followed the same routine and she was alone, non-syllabic. Asuka ate an instant beef bowl and prepared to cry herself to sleep another night, however, she stopped dead in her tracks when she walked into her bedroom. Atop her bed was a small package, she did not bother locking the door so anyone could have delivered it. She carefully approached it already dreading what she would see. NERV had found her. Asuka did not know whether to cry or run again, they had found her. Taking a switchblade from her desk she carved open the package. Amid a sea of Styrofoam peanuts was a black felt box, two inches on each side, gathering her remaining courage Asuka pried open the box to behold...a 24 karat gold engagement ring with a light blue stone that matched her eyes. Tears flowed from her eyes because she knew only one person would give her such a gift, and she needed the proof. Scrounging through the box she found a small slip of white paper with a note scrawled on it. Asuka's heart soared when she found it, her eyes brimmed with tears, and she pressed it to her breast after she read what was written... I NEED YOU She knew what had to be done...she had to return to Tokyo-3... (To be continued...) Well how do you like that! I've finally finished with this fanfic and I'd like to thank the good people at Gainax for an excellent series that really makes one think. This fanfic was inspired in part by "A new world for Shinji and Asuka" by Al-I-Bus, "I mustn't run away" by Andrew Huang, and "Home" by Cory Holmes. The note Asuka found in the package was inspired by one scene in the End of Eva where a computer screen reads "I need you." Notes: 4-8-99 I've changed all the rules. I watched The End of Eva over vacation and decided to continue this story in a new direction. Therefore a whole new title was needed.
