Shawn
Green
Shawn came to the Blue Jays briefly in 1993 and
finally made the team full time in 1995. He played through
adversity while in Toronto and became a star. No matter how much
adversity he faced, he always had time for the fans and the community.
He can often be seen on the field signing autographs
before many games. This is something he has done ever
since his rookie season in Toronto. Green went from a raw rookie
to Superstar in five years, but he always carried himself with the same
amount of class on and off the field. Whether it was not saying
anything when he was clearly being mistreated, or signing autographs
before many games he
was always classy. It was a sad day when he was traded to the
Dodgers because the Blue Jays let a special player and
person get away. Some people were angry with Shawn for leaving,
but after what he went through in Toronto I can't blame him for
wanting to leave. After five years with the Dodgers, Shawn spent
a year and a half with the Arizona Diamondbacks before being traded to
the Mets. He's reunited with his good friend Carlos Delgado they
fell just short of an appearance in the World Series in 2006.
Shawn's option for 2008 was declined and he has now retired.
Thanks for the memories Shawn.
