Goran Ivanisevic

Interviews

Round Robin (Kafelnikov)

3-6, 4-6

Q. Goran, bad luck. How were the sore bits today, the toe and the shoulder?
GORAN IVANISEVIC: Everything was fine, but he was too good.

Q. He really made you play a lot.
GORAN IVANISEVIC: He's different player than Kuerten, you know. I knew I gonna have tough return on my serve because Kuerten is staying very far, returning my serve and then I have easier to get angles. He is staying in and then I had to risk. Plus I didn't serve like against Guga, but I didn't have any chance. He was very good. Even the little chance I had, he come up with some big serve. Only break points I had some passing shot but, overall, he didn't give me anything, you know.

Q. Goran, obviously your next match against Juan Carlos Ferrero becomes incredible important, doesn't it? What are your thoughts on playing him?
GORAN IVANISEVIC: Is tomorrow. Decide is gonna be my last match of the year I going to still hang out here, you know, on Saturday, you know. Is gonna be interesting. Is going to be different kind of tennis, you know. He's also staying a little bit further back like Guga and I think I have to play aggressive and just see what happens, you know. Enjoy out there and have fun and if I win is perfect. If not, then I go home and I had a great year.

Q. Just on that subject, have you decided your schedule at the start of next year, what tournaments you're going to play in the lead up to the Australian Open?
GORAN IVANISEVIC: I gonna play Doha and Auckland.

Q. Goran, you played him many times on carpet. Did he do anything differently today? Did you think he came in more, perhaps, today than he has done in the past?
GORAN IVANISEVIC: Yeah, he came in a lot. He had a high percentage of first serve and even when I return my serve, he was there hitting the good volleys. Then he surprise me a lot of times with a big second serve but, overall, it's a match that I didn't have any chances, you know. I don't remember last time somebody kicking my arse so badly, you know. Really the match without any chance, so was one way, you know. He was the driver and I was the copilot and he was driving, you know, one way street, and he came to Russia instead of going to Croatia.

Right, the disclaimer. The interviews do not belong to me and are not being used for any form of profit on my behalf. Just to feed our craving for Goran.
