| A WORD FROM THE EDITOR Ever so often , we have to take a stand for what we believe in. In order to get people to believe in issues the same way we do, we try to argue out our point of view. What better way to plan out our argument than to write it out first (if we have the time)! You can practise this by always looking at things from the other person's point of view. So for this issue you will be having a look at an example of an argumnentative essay. |
Studying at a day school is better than studying at a residential school A couple were overheard talking about the course of action they should take for the good of their son. Man: Our son has just finished his Standard Six. Do you think he should go to a residential school or go to the normal day school nearby? Woman: What? A residential school? I am totally against it. Although many parents would not send their children to a residential school, there are many others who will gladly send them there. There the learners will be able to be more disciplined while in a residential school because there are set times for them to eat, sleep and study. They also have lots of peers to play with and discuss their schoolwork since normally, all of them work, sleep and study in the students' hostel. However, I feel that studying at a normal day school is better than studying at a residential school. There are many reasons for this. Firstly, if one is studying at a non-residential school, one will be staying with one's family at home. It is the duty of every parent to look after their child as they are growing up. How can a parent do that if the child is at school all the time and only comes home during the holidays? Secondly, a child will also experience the love and affection of a home and family life if they study at a non-residential school. They will be able to spend a lot of time with their parents, brothers and sisters. It will surely have a profound effect on the child's upbringing. Thirdly, studying at a non-residential school means that a student will not be in the school premises all the time. They will have to leave the school premises to go home. School life will therefore be less stressful for the student. The child will be brought up in a better environment, coming in contact with people from all walks of life, not merely students in school. Finally, although the advantages of studying at a non-residential school far outweigh the disadvantages, many children are still being sent to be residential schools. There are many schools located in many different parets of the world. |
