| A WORD FROM THE EDITOR Do you like to write? It is a very interesting pastime. You should try it. Write down your thoughts. It will be a good record and maybe even something to amuse you when you are older. In the next few issues, there will be some essays for you to read. You could write some yourself and send them to me for my perusal. Maybe, I might even put them into this website if they are interesting. So take up your pen and start writing today. Our first essay is a narrative one and it tells an interesting story. |
THE GOLD PENDANT It was Tricia's eighteenth birthday. She was excited because her brother had told her that her parents were organising a surprise party for her. Because her brother had told her about it, she had to pretend that she did not know anything about the birthday. In the morning, her mother gave her a birthday hug before she caught the bus to go to school. She was disappointed that there was no present but it did not really matter as she knew she would be getting a lot of presents at the surprise party in the evening. After school, she did not go home. Instead she went to see a movie with her friend, Anna. It was a comedy and both the girls enjoyed themselves very much. After the show, Tricia had to go for her piano lesson. Her mother fetched her from her piano tutor's house and by the time they got home it was 6p.m. "Surprise! Surprise!" everyone shouted when Tricia came into the hall of her house. Tricia was truly surprised because she did not expect the party to be held until later that evening. Her cousins and close friends were all there and they had many presents for her. She opened them one after another and then everyone had some food to eat. Her mother had really gone to a lot of trouble to prepare the delicacies. Tricia was grateful. She told her mother that when everyone had gone home after the party. "Thanks, mum, for making my birthday such a memorable event. I know I will not forget this birthday." Her mum then took out a little red box and gave it to Tricia." This is a gift for your birthday from your father and me, Tricia," her mum said. "We hope you like it." Tricia opened the box and in it she saw a little gold pendant in the shape of a rabbit, her favourite animal. She knew that she would treasure it forever. |
