| A WORD FROM THE EDITOR Writing is a pleasure when you know what you want to say and you have the right words to say it in. Many of us have to always crack our heads to come up with the right word or phrase that can convey our meaning. It does not get any easier with time unless we keep at it.Only then can we become better writers. So start today and put your thoughts into words. This month's essay is a regflective one, which means, that you can write it based on your own experiences and ideas. The best way to be good at this is to keep a diary and record down how you feel about all kinds of issues, from abortion to zoology. |
The Weekend I always look forward to the weekend. This is because I am so very busy throughout the week that I do not spend enought time at home with my family. On weekdays, besides spending at least half the day at school, I also have to attend tuition classes. I am a librarian and I have library duty once a week. Hence, on most days, I leave my home in the morning at 6.30a.m. and don't get back till after 5p.m. The weekends are different. If I do not have activities in school the whole of Saturday and Sunday, I spend my time with my family. I help my mother with the cooking and the washing on Saturday morning. In the afternoon, I do my homework and a little bit of studying. At night, it is 'TV time' with the whole family sitting in front of the television, watching a movie. Sometimes, my father takes us out for supper or a drive around town. On Sunday, it is family day. The whole family does a 'gotong-royong' to clean up the house. My siblings and I clean up our rooms. We take turns to wash the bathrooms as well. By lunch time, when the cleaning is finished, we all go out for a good meal together. For the rest of the time the house is very quiet because we will all be doing our homework, getting ready for school the next day. I really appreciate the weekend because it allows me to catch up on things which I have not done throughout the week. I guess I would consider the weekends a family affair because my family spends all our time together, enjoying each other's company. Sometimes we get into fights as well, but these occasions are very rare. I wish we had more weekends. |
