The Soldier

He stands stoically...
His face, set in stone, shows no emotion.
His squinted eyes and clenched jaw
Never falter or ease.
Only the trembling in the hands at his side
Betray him, showing his fear of
The unknown.
What is to become of him?
He thinks of his fallen brothers.
He lives only to serve.
Serves only to die.
Dies so that others may live
To stand in his place,
To stand stoically.
