This Week's Poetry

Burying Friends.

We buried yet another today
Of my high school graduating class.
He made one bad choice too many,
And so it came his time to pass.

His eulogy was full of lies,
Revealing not the life he led:
Preying on the emotions of others.
We always knew he'd wind up dead.

None of us thought we'd live this long.
In that respect, it seems we've won.
The ruthless lives we lead go on.
But now, for him, the worst is done.

I wonder now if the time draws near
For the rest of us to find demise.
To once again rejoin our brothers
Without the need of life's disguise.
