If wave trains and souse holes stir your blood, the Adirondacks is New York's answer for you. From the enjoyable ride down the Sacandaga to the death-defying plunges of the Moose, there's a river to suit your thirst for adrenaline.
If you've never tried whitewater before, the Sacandaga trip is the gentlest way to get your feet wet. It's short (3 miles), mild (maximum class 3), and can be run in the summer when the water and weather are warm. Several companies run 2 or 3 trips a day, starting from Hadley or Corinth:
Be aware that rafting is a dangerous sport. Although trips like the Sacandaga are generally considered safe even for older children, there is no way to eliminate all risks. On every trip there is real danger. Whitewater rafting is not like an amusement park ride: your safety depends as much -or more- on your actions as it does on your guide, raft, or companions.
