Adirondack Day Hikes

Click for a nice Photo Overlooking King's Flow.

Tight on time? No interest in the overnight discomforts? There are hundreds of perfect short hikes within a few hours' drive of New York City, Boston, and Montreal. Most of the Adirondack High Peaks can be reached in a half day hike. Real Trail Burners can even get up and down Mt. Marcy on a single day excursion; though most choose to utilize one of many lean-tos for this fourteen mile trek. And although those big 46 see the heaviest traffic, there are many "little peaks" that offer rewarding views, beautiful scenery, and fresh air for the walking.

If less strenuous walking appeals to you, come explore some of the river sides, ravines, and ghost towns of the Adirondacks. Or walk along a pristine lakeshore and maybe even drop a line in every so often.

Not sure of where to go or how to prepare for an Adirondack hike? Check the list below, call one of the local Visitors Information Centers (VIC), ask for suggestions from a local outfitter, or hire a NYS-licensed guide.

Adirondack Guiding Services

Nothing beats a day out with someone who knows the territory. In addition to the assurance of a professional trained in First Aid, CPR, and Wilderness Skills you will have a companion who can share insights about the local history, lore, and show you lesser-known attractions along the way. Their knowledge of the area can keep you away from danger, too.
