THE ADMITS OF 1988 (You cant call that class of 1992) SRI JAYACHAMARAJENDRA COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING (but considering the time we spent at these places...should it be...) DOWNS, STERLING, RAJ KAMAL, RUCHI CENTER, KSHIR SAGAR (Card shop), BIHARIS, TOPSTUFF, RITZ, TEGU, BLUE MOUNT, ANNAPOORNA, KAPAALI,........ and all other assorted hangouts

Well did those institutions jog the ol rusted memory, did they make you a bit Nostalgic, Did it make you run back to the Gunnis Book of Retorts or bring out the musty T-shirt which proudly said "I wuz there ". Well if they dint boy you need help.

If it is help that you want, it is help that you get:

I Year

It all began on Oct 17, 1988. (The exact time varied depending on the Section, Presence of the lecturer and the alarm clock going off). From then on it was a one roller coaster ride, The highs of Jayciana the lows of D1,D2 and E1,E2. The Highs of the football matches and the lows of Mess grub. The highs or lows of ragging (depending on how it all worked out). It was a definitely a high for many, when they saw Madhuri going Ek Do Teen (Remember the oodies Woodland theater), and it was definitely a low for the Co-operative (Talk about misnomers) store taathaa when he saw any one of us. Internals were a still serious stuff, one actually tried to be discreet while fudging. Ordies entered our lexicon as did OC, Bitti, By two, TAN and YC (Yapping Case).

II Year

Many would remember 2nd year from the day of the Reval results (some others would like to forget it for the same reason). Second year was when specialization set in. Some specialized in time pass and some others in OCing Chai. Ornithology was by far the most preferred hobby (member the polytechnic chics). Reference became the official enclosure for the love birds. Appropriately Maine Pyar Kiya was the hit of the year and Bhagyashree swept many a guys off their feet while Salman did the same to the girls. The more stoic found a role model in Anna seth a.k.a Nanapatekar in Parinda. The new Entry into the concise JCE dic- tionary were TM (too much), TP (what else) and Punter. Here mention should be made of the birth of two new branches Polymer Science and Technology (they learnt how to play cricket during class hours from the Instrumentation guys) and Environmental (many of us feel that the prefix Environ was un necessary)

III Year

Third year was time for disasters. The Rajiv Gandhi assassina- tion, The Kar Seva and JP as the external for the E&C Viva Voce. It was the year when the janta got down to the nuts and bolts. Nuts like the Seamen gang which emerged (or should I say Ejacu- lated) as a bolt from the blue, And other nuts who believed that it would be zero semester and bolted to the fee counter to claim refund. Then there was the T-shirt fad. The Verve , Seamen (here they come again), Polymer T-shirts to name but a few. It was in the third year that we had our first whiff of strikes. And if the Strikes against was not enough most guys were awe struck as Madhuri again thrusted her way into many a guys dreams with Dhak a dhak. The JCE lexicon, meanwhile grew exponentially as the first few phrases of the Michael Gunnis family came to the fore. In addition to the illustrious Michael Gunnis we had his cousins Douglas Dagaar, Adaal Andrew, Peter petis and Oliver Oshma. There must be a Karmic meaning to these Phrases, coz like the Vedas these can mean anything, everything and nothing at the same time. We had at least a year more to go but many had already graduated - from Ciggis to the Greener stuff.

IV year

It was real Party time both in literal and figurative terms. There were the dress up days and there were the dress down days. While the formal and traditional days would fall in the dress up category. The National integration of multiple variables day, The cross dressing day (when Polymer guys wore skirts and Gals wore Ties, shirts, trousers and blazers to class and their HOD got the dressing down) can be only classified in the later cate- gory. The Batty Boys really set the tracks on fire on the sports day, While the seamen had their second coming (Pun intended). And of course there was the cracker of a Graduation day when every- body passed on with "Flying Colours". Fourth year will also be remembered for its parties the Farmhouse party, The departmental socials and other general parties. Fourth year also saw birth of many club, Milestones the trekking club an The Literary Society were but two of them. It may have been the butt of many a joke but the anti smoking campaign which came at the fag end of stay in college did make quite a few guys sit up (and reach for the ciggis). And, as we packed our bags - came the souvenirs Post Script (This one was by the, for the and of the Polymer Branch) and The Gunnis Book Of Retorts.

There that should do it, By now you should be having a goofy smile on your face. Of course the above is not a comprehensive summary. You will have your own memories and if you go back to them you will realize that it has been ten years since we first met. Ten years, A Decade of knowing each other, boy that is something that should be commemorated. And commemoration is what we have in mind - but how. Ideas have been coming in thick and fast (and more ideas the better). Some have called for a T-Shirt, Others for a Table top memento, Some are inclined towards having a reunion in Mysore (with catering by Tegu) while some others prefer a Son of the Gunnis Book Of Re- torts. I bet you will have your ideas and if you do You can E- mail, Fax, Telephone, Pigeon mail it to any of the Co- ordination centers given below. Even if you don't you can, indicate your willingness to go along with any of the ideas by getting back to us. You can also do a good deed by forwarding this to other JCE admits of 1988 who you are in contact with. A fast response will be appreciated coz we are running out-o-time.

Well, one another point - The moolah. We would like to know how much moolah you can spare-This is required so as to see the feasibility of any of the Ideas (You knew it, There had to be a catch somewhere).

Anyways, hoping to here from you..soon.
