Essay on the Future

Almost like one of those emotional speeches you hear one rainy sunday at the Podium...Or a college essay ...Or something.

I firmly believe that the future will be whatever an individual chooses to make it. There are an infinite number of possibilities for the future and we are all capable of defining the path that we choose to follow. As stated in the song, 'Stairway to Heaven' by Led Zeppelin, "Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there’s still time to change the road you're on".

Its quite possible that the human race shall choose to follow the path of our ideals and form a future where a gentle balance is created between our minds, our physical being and our environment. Eventually, we will overcome all scientific, economic, social and cultural boundaries and build our global society in this state of harmony.

There is the also the alternate, dystopian vision of the future, which seems to have humanity in a vice-like grip at present. With the ever-present desire for power and our seemingly innate aggressive nature, our future could simply be the demolition of our home planet and the demise of humanity. This disaster could be a result of nuclear war, environmental destruction, depletion of natural resources, widespread famine or any one of the numerous other problems that are beginning to take shape in the world around us.

The future can best be described as what we choose to make it. It is likely that the human race will eventually be destroyed by our own choices, based in ignorance, hostility and miscommunication. Despite this negative outlook, there always remains the utopian pathway to our happiness, which can be achieved by merely thinking differently and keeping our ideals pure in all our actions.
