Indian Mysticism - Practices

 Asana (correct posture)

1: Upright position of sitting body with head neck and chest in nearly straight line.

2: Keep shoulders back, dont allow chest to sag inwards.

3: Place hyands in lap, palm upwards - one hand on top of the other.

4: have weight of body resting easily on hips (use cushion underneath if you feel uncomfortable).

5: Draw abdomen in slightly...Never allow it to protude (could injure yourself)

Never do something uncomfortable.

Nadi (Psychic Nerve channels)

NADI stimulator - Stand erect - do breathing - extend arms straight out infront - make fists - pull fists to shoulders after inhaling.

NADI vibrator (for curing apathy) - Sniff 3 times instead of inhaling properly while sitting - exhale with a slow sigh - repeat 7 times.

NADI purifying - Assume Asana position - inhale - on exhale, purse lips and blow out with some vigour - repeat 7 times then rest.

Mantram (vocal cultivation)

Gives you a magical moment with your voice - attain beauty through its use

Assume Asana - Say on exhaling:

1: HAHHHHHHHMMmmm

2: HAWWWWMMMmmm

3: HEEEEEEEMMMmmm

4: HIGHHHHMMMMmmm

5: HOEEEEMMMMmmm

6: HOOOOOMMMMmmm

7: HUUUUUMMMMmmm

Pranazing water (for vigor/curing illness)

Hold glass in left hand.

Hold right hand spread over top of glass - gather fingers together and shake them (dropping prana into the water).

Open right hand and perform several circular passes over glass.

(Visualize/feel/will energy into the water).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Healing by breath:

Exhale on affected part, passing energy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Healing by hands:

Make slow passes over body - from head to toe with fingers spread - from toes to head along sides of the body (fingers closed).

ALSO TRY: Rotary pass - stroking, outward and downward.

Authors note: Also try holding affected area in both hands and feeling/passing healing energy.

Concentration (control of mind)

1: Keeping out unwanted thoughts.

2: Concentrating on one thought/object.

Yogis use crystal ball

Two methods of concentration:

 - Imaginatively, with images. (e.g. hold a single image in head)

 - reasoning, through chains of reasoning. (e.g. solving a relationship problem in the mind till satisfaction is attained)

Obstacles to concentration

Disease

Apathy of mind

Doubt and disbelief

Carelessness

Laziness

Worldly mindedness

Erroneous/mistaken ideas

Instability

7 little devils

Physical sensations (itches, fatigue etc.) - ignore them

Sense reports (sights sounds) - shut them out

Memories

Reveries (daydreaming) - intrudes on rest

Involuntary thought analysis

Thought influence (from others)

Dimmed consciousness

Magic of words and sounds

Words work through - psychic vibrations, meanings, autosuggestion, emotion.

- verbal - say it out loud

- mental - said inside (powerful)

Familiar/popular verbalizations:

AUM

AUM MANE' PAADMAY HUMMM (oh jewel of the lotus, amen).

LA-ILLA-HA ILL-LUL-LAH

use to add rhythm to your being

DO NOT USE FLIPPANTLY - EVERY THOUGHT/WORD HAS AFFECT IN LIFE.

Art of Maya (illusory magic)

Find subjects to work with:

Test: Ask subject to stand infront of you with left arm out, palm downward, fingers spread. Ask subject to raise pinkie slightly - tell subject he will feel tingling in finger - concentrate. - Ask positive questions (you are feeling the tingling arent you?)

Good subject feels tingling - break affect by grabbing hand and saying, its over.

FIRST MAYA TEST:

Tell subject to think of falling forward

tell him to fall forward - use words like swaying, falling, faster

promise to catch him - make passes with hand drawing subject forward.

(subject will sway) - eventually fall forward

either with: closed eyes OR looking into your eyes.

SECOND MAYA TEST:

Palm on palm - tell subject to press tight and that he cannot move his hand (emphasize tight, cant). Similarly, Clasped hands, clenched fist, rotating hands, stop/limit movement.

THIRD MAYA TEST:

Make subject stand with hand out, palm downward. Place first two fingers of right hand onto back of his/her hand. Picture burning heat rushing into the skin. Use vocal affirmations (hot, burning, pull away).

BE CREATIVE once mastered skill.
