$10,000 Sweep

$10,000 SWEEP (Unsold pilot)
Jack Clark
Tape date: August 4, 1972
Host: Jack Clark
Announcer: Don Pardo

GAME PLAY

Two teams of two competed. One member of each team was shown a word or phrase and Clark asked a question. The player with the word would buzz in, and give the answer to Jack's question. If correct their partner would give an answer to the word. For example, if the word was "Jeopardy" the question might be: First host of this show. The player would then respond Art Fleming, and their partner could put two and two together and get "Jeopardy". If right, they won five points. If the first player gave the wrong information, Jack would read it to the other team and they would get to answer. Each question after that was worth one more point than the last. Three target numbers were also announced. If any team's score matched a target, they got the next question unopposed. The first team to reach 100 points won the game.

A team's first game won earned them $2,000. The second $4,000 total, then $6,000 to split and finally $10,000 for the final game. If they lose at any time, their winnings are cut in half.

NOTES
The theme music for this game was that of another Bob Stewart pilot, "Second Guessers." It also was used on "The Face is Familiar."

Host Jack Clark had a few minor successes in his on-air hosting career, most notably "The Cross-Wits." He was behind the announce booth for many shows including "Wheel of Fortune" and "Split Second."

This show was piloted for ABC.

MY THOUGHTS
It's an okay game. Moves fast and requires some thinking. Jack Clark is a mite stiff in the host position. Set and music are odd...the scenery is a blend of solid orange and rainbow colors. Eeew.

JAY SAYS...
Cast - 1.5
Game - 1.5
Bells and Whistles - 0.5
Prize - 1.5
Tilt - 0.5

[ 05.5 ]

I guess the only problem was the lather, rinse, repeat nature of the gameplay. Play, win, go on, no bonus, question, question, question. As with a lot of failed Bob Stewart ventures, there's a fragment of workable concept, it just needs better framework.
