Bob Eubanks often turned the cards quickly and followed this up with "Yeah...". Jim Perry gets it here, but I didn't like the way he discouraged some betters in the "Money Cards". ADVANTAGE: "Card Sharks" '78 (1-0) ANNOUNCER Gene Wood was the announcer on both versions. ADVANTAGE: --- (1-0) GAME PLAY The first version had straight 100-person poll questions, and later introduced bonuses for good calls of the cards and question predicting. The second introduced 10-person polls and educated guess questions. ADVANTAGE: "Card Sharks" '78 (2-0) BONUS ROUND Both used the "Money Cards" although the second version allowed for bigger cash prizes with some more fair rules. Changing one card per line, and a pushes earning no win/no loss. The car games were both a little out of place. With Jim Perry's direction however, the first generation "Money Cards" were much more exciting. ADVANTAGE: Draw (2-0) THE SET The first set was a little odd at times, with unstable podiums in the front and end games. The second however was barren without the car but was a bit neater. ADVANTAGE: "Card Sharks" '86 (2-1) MUSIC The first version was written by Score Productions and was also used on "Double Dare" with Alex Trebek. The second was a weaker theme that sounded like commercial background music. ADVANTAGE: "Card Sharks" '78 (3-1) MISCELLANY The opening of "Card Sharks" '78 included neat opening poems sent in by viewers. The second had a basic speil announcing the show's title or talked about the car and $32,000 being won. ADVANTAGE: "Card Sharks" '78 (4-1) And the winner is... "Card Sharks" '78 - 4 "Card Sharks" '86 - 1 "Card Sharks" '78!!! Bob Eubanks made a good enough host for the show, but the questions often talked about similar things and Bob made a lot of unnecessary bad jokes. BACK |
