Okay, hi everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful New Year. I spent mine in bed with the nasty flu thats going around. I hope none of my fellow angels got it. Its horrible. Im actually starting to feel slightly human tonight so I thought Id write a new chapter of Wish Upon a Star, my adaptation of the movie the Christmas List that aired on December 8th on the fox family channel at 8PM. Thanks for all the feedback.
Chloe wanted to sink into the floor. She closed her eyes and tried to imagine the sofa opening up and swallowing her whole.
I demand an explanation for this.
Nothing, the sofa remained intact and she was still sitting on it, mortified. Brenda was sitting next to her, biting her lip. Her legs were crossed under her and she was twirling a strand of her hair trying not to look as nervous as she was. Chloe sighed.
Ms. Morgan if you would please just have a seat, Im sure we can straighten this out.
I should hope so.
Gertrude sat down in the chair next to Chloe and glared at her.
Well, young lady, what do you have to say for yourself?
Ms. Morgan let me explain.
Jerry got up and moved to stand behind his desk. Jax knew the move well, and knew that Jerry was trying to let Chloes aunt know who was in charge.
Chloe isnt in any trouble. In fact, weve just realized that for the last four years our current store manager has shortchanged your niece. We have just begun to rectify the situation with a check for the amount of money currently owed to her.
Gertrudes eyes lit up. Well, the little chit could start pitching in. After all, the only reason Gertrude kept her around was because of her inheritance. Of course, now that she had already gone through that money Gertrude needed something to live on. Marrying Chloe off to Stefan Cassidine, the heir of the Cassidine fortune was the first step and now that she would be making more money Gertrude could demand that Chloe pay rent.
Well thats wonderful isnt it Chloe? How much
I dont believe that is any of your business.
Why I I simply can not believe your attitude young man.
She turned to Jane who was sitting back whispering to John.
Im sorry Ms. Morgan but Im afraid we dont like your attitude towards your niece. How long did you think it would be before somebody discovered what youve been doing?
Gertrudes face turned white.
I honestly dont know what youre talking about.
Chloe sat up now and watched Jerry. He pulled some papers out of a file on his desk. When she glanced at Gertrude her aunt looked almost terrified.
Did you honestly think that marrying Chloe off to Stefan Cassadine would erase the fact that you have managed to spend her entire inheritance? Really Ms. Morgan, we only dug for about 3 hours before we discovered what you had done.
You didnt!
Chloe leapt off the sofa, hobbling on one foot.
You spent Uncle Herberts inheritance that he left for me already? Why?
Oh please,
Gertrude waved a hand in front of her face and sighed.
What were you going to use all that money for?
Chloes heart fell, she really didnt need all the money her Uncle Herbert had left for her but it was still upsetting. She was going to use some of it to start her own business. Chloe Morgan Designs. Now it looked like that dream would never be realized.
Nothing I guess, but Aunt Gertrude, what have I ever done to you?
Gertrude frowned and looked away from her niece.
Indeed
Saying nothing else Gertrude turned away from Chloe and stood up.
Now, if theres nothing else I do believe I shall return home.
Jerry hated the look of hurt he saw on Chloes face.
There is one more thing.
Gertrude turned to face Jerry again and scowled at the look of hatred Brenda was shooting her.
Our attorneys have drawn up some papers we want you to sign.
Im not signing anything you thieves have cooked up.
Madam, I dont appreciate you calling my sons thieves, especially not when you are in the position you are in right now.
The door to the offices opened and a weasely faced man walked in carrying some papers.
Stevenson what are you doing here?
Gertrude I think you had better do what these young men are asking you to do.
Gertrude was fuming now.
I will not sign these papers.
Stevenson frowned.
I think in light of the circumstances theyre being awfully nice to you Gertrude.
I wont be bullied.
Well then,
Jerry picked up the phone.
What are you doing?
Hes calling the police.
Jax smiled when Gertrudes face turned white.
Its about time somebody did it.
Brenda grinned at Jerry.
I really think you should look over the papers Gertrude, before things get out of hand.
With a frustrated sigh Gertrude grabbed the papers out of Jerrys hand. As she read she made little grunts and groans.
You can not expect a person to Oh my, you
Brenda and Chloe exchanged confused glances.
Well Ms. Morgan?
Jerry held out a pen to Gertrude who glared at Chloe while signing the papers.
You will be moved out of Chloes house by the end of the week.
But I thought I mean, Uncle Herbert left the house at least to Gertrude
Jane walked over and sat next to Chloe.
My dear were going to have to explain a few things to you but right now just trust my sons. They know what theyre doing.
Chloe nodded as she struggled to against the lump in her throat. How long had she been lied to?
Well, if nobody needs me
Brenda sensed the tension building in the room and wanted to get out of there. She didnt understand why she was still there. After all, it looked like Jax and Jerry were dealing with bigger problems than what was wrong with her life.
Jax started to say something but John held up his hand and grinned.
Its quite alright for you to go dear. Do you have plans for Christmas Eve tonight?
Well, um we all usually get together at Loiss house.
That sounds lovely dear Merry Christmas.
Jane gave Brenda a hug and walked her to the door.
Now dear, if you need anything, anything at all give me a call.
Yes thank you, Merry Christmas Mrs. Jacks.
Call me Jane dear well see you Monday.
Brenda nodded and turned out the door but not before seeing Gertrude sign the papers Jerry had given her. She knew that Chloe would call her later on and tell her what happened. She wasnt sure herself about what had happened.
Shutting the door behind her she walked in a daze out of the store to head
home. She had some Christmas shopping left to do and then wrapping before
the party at Loiss parents house. Brenda had the distinct impression
that nothing was going to be the same again.
