Wish Upon A Star Chapter 8

by Susan C. on January 26, 19100 at 19:44:34:

Hi everyone. Hope all the East Coast Angels are surviving the snow. The one thing that sucks about it is that it’s not good snowball snow. I went outside to shovel with my parents and alas, I couldn’t pack a decent snowball because the snow is too darn powerdy. L I love snowball fights. Anyway, since I couldn’t pelt my dad with snowballs I decided to come inside and write another chapter of Wish Upon A Star, my adaptation of the movie the Christmas List that aired on the Fox Family Channel on December 8th at 8 PM. Thanks for all the feedback. Enjoy the chapter!

“What are you thinking about? “

Chloe still stood in the office of Jacks Brothers her arms wrapped around herself, gazing out the window at the falling snow. Jerry walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, resting his chin on her shoulder.

“Hmmm, “

Turning around in his arms Chloe kissed him softly.

“I’m wondering what Brenda and Lois are going to do to me when they find out that I’ve orchestrated this whole thing. “

Jerry smiled. He had met Chloe four months before and hadn’t been able to deny, even for a cynic like himself that he had fallen in love with her at first sight. He remembered the moment clearly. He had been in the garment district, hunting down a birthday present for his mother when she had stepped out of a store, arms laden with fabric, and run smack into him. The fabric had flown everywhere and Jerry had looked into Chloe’s eyes and without even knowing her name had realized that he wanted to marry her and have children with her. He hadn’t told her that yet of course, she was still reeling with the fact that he owned the store where she worked. It had taken him nearly a month to get her to agree to go out with him and even then she had been uncertain.

“You knew I couldn’t let you and your friends live the way you were living any longer. If Jax and I had known what Sonny was doing before now it would have stopped and he would have been fired. “

Chloe sighed and nodded.

“I know that Jerry, believe me, I didn’t want to continue living under Gertrude’s watchful eyes any longer either. “

She started hopping over to the sofa to sit down again but Jerry scooped her into his arms and sat down with her on his lap. He brushed a strand of her hair out of her eyes and grinned.

“You didn’t think I was going to let her actually marry you off to Stefan Cassadine did you? “

“I still don’t understand how you found out about all of that…”

Jerry laughed.

“Chloe, you wouldn’t tell me where you worked, or where you lived, I was beginning to think you were a FBI agent or something… but then the other day when Jax and I walked into the store and I saw you and your friends running past us I couldn’t believe it. I understood finally why you had been reluctant to go out with me. You knew who I was. “

“I…”

He put his index finger on her lips and shook his head.

“Don’t say anything. I know that’s why you were so leery of me but come on look at what we managed to do for your friends. “

Chloe let out a deep sigh and leaned back into chest as their fingers linked together he looked down at their joined hands.

“We did help didn’t we? “

He grinned as she twisted in his arms and looked up at him.

“I think so, it will be interesting to see how Brenda handles the surprise Jax is bringing her. “

“Jax? “

“I thought we could send Jax with her, kind of ease the shock a little bit, plus well, Jax hasn’t broken down and dated in a long time, I was hoping they could hit it off. “

Chloe started laughing and kissed Jerry long and hard.

“You’re something you know that? “

Jerry slowly slid his hands under Chloe’s shirt as he kissed her.

“So are you. “

With a muffled laugh and a shriek they sank down into the cushions of the sofa.

“So…”

“So…”

“What are we going to do about this offer? “

Lois and her parents were sitting around the kitchen table. The smell of food cooking filled the house with homey warmth that Lois loved. In a few hours the whole Cerullo family, well the part of the family that still lived in Brooklyn, would gather for a traditional Christmas Eve dinner. Chloe and Brenda would join them as they did every year, since Brenda’s only family was not involved in her life at all, and Chloe, well her Aunt Gertrude was not exactly warm and fuzzy.

“It’s a really good opportunity for Cerullo’s. “

Carmine Cerullo, put his glasses on and scanned the contract the Jacks family had given them.

“They’re giving us complete creative control over the restaurant…”

“Creative control? “

Gloria leaned over her husband’s shoulder and read some of the contract.

“I think that means that we can design the restaurant anyway we want, pick all the accessories etc… and we don’t have to answer to anyone but ourselves. “

“Are these guys serious? “

Lois laughed.

“Mom, they’re actually being very generous. I’d heard stories about some of the stuff they do but I never imagined…”

“That it would happen to us…”

Carmine finished his daughter’s sentence and grinned at his wife and daughter.

“What should we do? “

With a grin Lois took the pen from her father and signed the spot over her name.

“I say we sign… whatever angel has given us this opportunity we shouldn’t pass it up. “

She handed the pen to her mother who signed along with Lois, and finally Carmine took the pen.

“Well ladies, here goes our future. “

As Carmine signed the papers, an ambulance raced through the streets across town. It was answering the call of a hit and run accident.

Brenda blinked rapidly against the pain and opened her eyes. The bright light surrounding her blinded her and gave her a headache so she closed her eyes again. Where was she? The ground beneath her was wet with snow and her hip felt like someone had taken a baseball bat to it. There was a heavy weight on her and she couldn’t lift herself up.

“Don’t move. “

A soft voice whispered to her and she struggled to stay awake.

“What? “

Jax lay on top of Brenda, his weight pinning her to the wet pavement. The car that had tried to run them down minutes before was swinging around. He hadn’t gotten a long look at the driver of the car before it had moved him down but from what he had seen he knew that he and Brenda were in trouble.

“Just stay down. “

“Jax I don’t understand. “

“Brenda trust me. “

Looking up into Jax’s eyes Brenda thought she could see into the very depths of his soul. Her heart was beating furiously as she struggled to remain calm.

Jax could see the fear in her eyes and feel it as her body trembled beneath him.

“We didn’t just want to change your address so that we could surprise you for Christmas Brenda. Did you know that your records are sealed? “

“My records…”

Brenda was more than confused… this whole day was like something out of a dream or at this moment a nightmare.

“I’m asking you to just trust me Brenda. “

The car moved slowly by them and Jax dropped his head on her shoulder. William ducked in the limo as he made the call to 911. He knew that Jax and Ms. Barrett had been struck down, but until their assailants had left there was no way he could check their injuries.

When Jax looked up again the car had finally disappeared and he shifted off Brenda slightly so he wasn’t crushing her so much. He winced when he saw the gash on her forehead bleeding wiped ineffectually at it. His left arm was broken and he grimaced in pain when he tried to move it. Brenda noticed his move and tried to sit up. She gasped when the pain shot through her hip.

“Mr. Jacks are you and the young lady okay? “

Jax looked up at William who was more than just a driver, his bodyguard looked extremely upset.

“I believe we will be William, however we do need medical attention. “

Sirens rang loudly as just at that instant an ambulance drove up and paramedics jumped out.

“Brenda you haven’t answered me yet, will you trust me? “

She sighed as a paramedic approached.

“I guess now I have no choice do I? “

“At this point in the game Brenda you couldn’t have said it better, you really don’t have a choice. “
