Truly, Madly, Deeply-Chapter 23

Jax squints as the sun pours through his bay window in his bedroom and he looks down at his chest to see Brenda sleeping peacefully. He smiles and brushes a lock of midnight hair from her forehead. She had this pleased, curled up smile that he had become so accustomed to. And now…now he would be able to see that smile every morning because Brenda was going to move in with him. He still could not believe that he had only known this twenty-year old girl for six months. He was so madly in love with her…what he felt for Brenda did not deserve to be written down because it would not do justice to the all-consuming love he felt for her.

He kisses the tip of her nose and she giggles and yawns. “Morning,” she says looking at him adoringly. “Well, last night was interesting, honey and all,” Jax says chuckling. “I think I am a very creative lover…but not as creative as you,” Brenda says laying her cheek against his heart. “I think you do a pretty good job, Miss Barrett,” Jax says ruffling her soft hair. Brenda places her chin on her right hand that sits on his chest and whispers, “I cannot believe we are going to get to wake up together every morning together.” “It’s like a dream come true,” Jax responds. “Yes, it truly is,” Brenda says leaning in and kissing his lips gently.

“What do you think Lois and Robin will think?” Jax asks. “I really don’t know…I mean Lois will be moving out anyway and Robin is always with Jason and the lease on the house is up next month so it really works out,” Brenda says biting her bottom lip and shrugging her shoulders. “Do you think Robin will live with Jason?” Jax asks. “Maybe or she will get her own apartment…Lois and I were always so loud and I knew sometimes Robin wanted to scream…she was just too polite,” Brenda says with a light laugh.

“Well you have made me the happiest man in the world,” Jax says sitting up. “I bet I have,” Brenda says raising her eyebrow suggestively. “Little cocky are we?” Jax asks trying to keep a straight face. “Oh Jasper, please…you were putty in my hands last night,” Brenda responds with rolling her eyes. “No, I think the honey did that,” Jax replies. Brenda puts on a pout expression and Jax laughs in appreciation. “Oh Bren, you are the reason I am oh so very happy,” Jax says kissing her forehead.

“I feel the same way about you,” Brenda says jumping out of bed and grabbing the sheets off the bed and wrapping herself in them, leaving Jax completely bare. “Brenda!” Jax screams jumping up, running after her. “You are not going to catch me Mr. Hot Buns,” Brenda says laughing hysterically as Jax stands there naked trying to pry the sheet from her. Finally, Brenda jumps onto the bed and Jax follows, pulling the covers over his body. “You are naughty!” Jax says shaking his head. “I know,” Brenda replies in a pleased tone.

Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it’s only right
To think about the girl you love and hold her tight
So happy together

If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together

I can’t see me lovin´ nobody but you
For all my life
When you’re with me, baby the skies´ll be blue
For all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

I can’t see me lovin´ nobody but you
For all my life
When you’re with me, baby the skies´ll be blue
For all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

So happy together
How is the weather
So happy together
We’re happy together
So happy together
Happy together
So happy together
So happy together (ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba)

“I better get up though…Jilly will be home pretty soon and I have to take her to the airport,” Jax says now pulling the sheet from Brenda. “I cannot believe you…Jax, you are wretched!” Brenda wails. “Hey, I can be naughty too,” Jax says blowing her a kiss.

Four hours later…

“Jilliane, it is only three weeks,” Jax says handing her ticket to the clerk. “Three weeks too long,” Jilliane responds grumpily as the ticket is stamped and handed back to her. “Jilliane, we will have a girl’s night out when you come back,” Brenda says hugging her. “Really?” Jilliane asks with a small smile. “Oh please, pepperoni pizza, rocky road ice cream, mud masques, Backstreet Boys, and Dirty Dancing,” Brenda says laughing. “Sounds good to me…what do you say Jilly, are you going to get on that plane without a tantrum?” Jax asks looking hopefully. “Yes, I will be good,” Jilliane says hugging Jax.

“Good girl,” Jax says smiling. “For once,” Jax whispers to Brenda who tries to not snicker. “Bye Brenda,” Jilliane says waving as she enters the plane. “I cannot believe she left without a fuss,” Jax says shaking his head in amazement. “Hey, knock on wood…the plane has not taken off yet,” Brenda says as she and Jax walk over to the window and watch the plane’s wheels begin to roll.

“Amazing,” Jax says five minutes later as the plane floats through the air. “Three more weeks of peace…enjoy them,” Brenda says laughing. “We will…believe me,” Jax responds laughing as he and Brenda walk away from the window.

“You are moving in with Jax?” Robin says in disbelief. “Yup…I hope that does not mess things up for you,” Brenda says nervously. “Actually, I have been putting off telling you but Jason and I are going to move into this new apartment over near the hospital so it works out perfectly,” Robin says cheerfully. “Great… and Lois and Ned will be together so this is so convenient,” Brenda says with a sigh of relief.

“Yes it is but I am sad we won’t see each other everyday,” Robin says with a smile. “Oh Robin, we will still see each other at school and we will be visiting each other all the time and we will be coming to see the Ashton family,” Brenda says giving her a hug. “I cannot believe Lois is going to be a mother!” Robin says exclaiming. “Do you think the Port Charles Hotel is going to look nice tonight for the bachelorette party?” Brenda asks with anticipation in her voice. “Lois will love it and Ned is going to be hilarious,” Robin says as Lois walks in and Robin and Brenda remain silent.

“Hello girls!” Lois says cheerfully walking in eating a steak bomb sub. “I hate that you can eat whatever you want, it is so not fair,” Brenda says. “Get pregnant Miss Barrett and then you will be as privileged as I am to have already put on fifteen pounds and guaranteed to put on about thirty more,” Lois says shaking her head. “Well when you put it that way I think I will stick to my salads and fish for the time being,” Brenda says laughing. “You are such a dancer, Brenda…you better pig out tonight at our dinner tonight,” Lois says collapsing on the couch.

Robin and Brenda exchange amused glances and Brenda says, “Lo, I might even order a piece of cheesecake.” “Thank goodness because I am all about the desserts these days…actually, do we have any of that apple pie left over? Lois asks putting down the sub and heading into the kitchen. “Tonight should be interesting to say the least,” Robin says. Brenda nods and chuckles.

“Yeah, you can bring Ned at eight,” Brenda whispers at the PC hotel on her cell phone. “How is the party going… was Lois surprised?” Jax asks with curiosity. Brenda laughs and says, “She was so excited…she said she has not had this much fun since she bungee jumped off Brooklyn Bridge.” “Well, I am glad…I will deliver Ned and then disappear,” Jax says. “Oh sweetie, you can come in…Jason is coming by after…Lois said the men could come by after.” Brenda responds. “Okay well I will come in for a little bit and then you can come back to our house later tonight,” Jax says. “Bye…I love you,” Brenda says. “Ditto,” Jax says hanging up. Brenda smiles and whispers “our house.”

****************************************

“Holy Toledo…that cake is so big!” Lois screeches as Felicia bring out the cake on rollers. “Is my male stripper going to pop out?” Lois says laughing in delight. “Even better, baby,” Ned says popping out of the cake without a shirt and black leather pants with the seventies hit “Macho Man” playing. “Nedly, woo hoo!” Lois screams as Ned begins to dance towards Lois with some whip cream on his finger. Lois licks it off and bursts out laughing as Ned pulls off his leather pants and has on silk boxers that say, “Brooklynites do it better.” Lois hops up and begins dancing with Ned and they start doing the hustle.

Brenda had to hold her sides to stop from laughing. Robin had tears streaming down her face as did the rest of the party…it was a success. Brenda looks around for Jax since he was supposed to be with Ned. The door to the bar was slightly ajar and they were had rented out the largest room in the hotel since Ned’s family owned the hotel. Brenda hears Jax’s voice ever so slightly over the loudness of the party. Then a female laughter cuts through the air and Brenda tiptoes over to the door.

Jax was standing there with this absolute gorgeous woman. She was about 5’10, with long, wavy auburn hair and skin that was milky and looked like porcelain. Her eyes were emerald green and she was wearing a stylish teal cocktail dress, accentuating her very long legs. Brenda opens the door and walks over and loops her arm through Jax’s. “Hello darling,” Brenda says with a sugary sweet smile.

“Bren!” Jax says in surprise. “Didn’t think you were gonna get caught?” Brenda thinks to herself. “I’m Brenda,” she says extending her hand to the woman. “Hello, Felicity Carson,” the woman says with a bright smile. “Hi…so how do you two know each other?” Brenda grits through her teeth assuming this was one of Jax’s ex-girlfriends. “Brenda, this is Robert, my college roommate’s wife,” Jax says trying not to smile…he knew Brenda jealous as anything. “Oh, that’s so nice that you still keep in touch,” Brenda says letting out a deep breath. “Nice to see you again, Jax and to meet you, Brenda,” Felicity responds. “Nice to meet you,” Brenda says looking down ashamed.

“Have a good night Felicity and tell Robert to call me in the morning when he is feeling better,” Jax says giving her a hug. Jax turns around and Brenda was already gone.

*******************************************

Brenda sits curled up in her bed and rocks back and forth. “What have I done?” Brenda whispers to herself as she watches her blue candle flicker, making shadows dance against the walls. She had been so immature…she had automatically assumed that Jax and Felicity were involved at one time. The jealously she felt scared her…it was so intense and she had felt so much pain and anger within minutes. Jax was going to think she was such a child for behaving as she did. Brenda sniffles and opens the drawer of her dresser next to her bed. She pulls out a picture of Jax…it was the day they went spring skiing in Alaska when they stayed with Jax’s parents. They had snowflakes in their hair and their coats were soaked with melted ice.

She was kissing Jax on the cheek and his eyes were crossed with his hands over his heart. She giggles at the picture…that day had been so wonderful…almost everyday was perfect with Jax. “And you had to mess it up, stupid,” Brenda says collapsing against her pillows. She flips on her radio sighs when she hears the song…these days every ballad could remind her of Jax.

How do I get through one night without you?
If I had to live without you
What kind of life would that be?
Oh I need you and my arms need you to hold
You're my world my heart my soul

If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything
Good in my life
And tell me now
How do I live without you?

I want to know
How do I breathe without you?
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I
Oh how do I live without you?

Brenda hears the front door open and she jumps up. “Lois, Robin…are you there?” Brenda asks nervously. There is no response and Brenda takes a deep breath. She goes to the top of the stairs and sighs in relief when she sees Jax smiling at the bottom of the stairs with a pink tulip in his hand. “Hi,” he says walking up. “What are you doing here?” Brenda asks turning around to walk into her room. Jax follows and responds, “I came by to ask why you disappeared without any explanation.”

Brenda turns to him and says; “Do you know how embarrassed I was tonight by the way I acted?” “Bren, so what, you were a little jealous…I would have reacted the same way,” Jax says shrugging his shoulders. “Jax, that woman probably thought I was such a spoiled little brat which I was!” Brenda says throwing up her arms. Jax replies, “Brenda, I do not care that you were jealous…and I don’t think Felicity is crying over it either,” Jax says trying to kiss her.

Brenda pulls away and says, “Jax, you don’t get it…I just assumed Felicity was an ex because you have dated and had so many beautiful women…and then there is just me.” “Brenda, why are you acting like this…you know how much I adore and love you!” Jax says in aggravation. “Jax, I am twenty…I was a virgin before I met you who had kissed about three boys and I had never been in love…I am so new at this and I am still learning,” Brenda exclaims with tears forming in her eyes.

When the road gets dark
And you can no longer see
Just let my love throw a spark
And have a little faith in me
And when the tears you cry
Are all you can believe?
Just give these loving arms a try
And have a little faith in me

“Brenda, that is one of the reasons I love you…you are so pure and untainted…I don’t ever want you to see the bad side of love and relationships…I will never break your heart,” Jax says holding her face. “Jax, I know how much you love me but sometimes I think about it and I realize I am only four years older than your little sister and I am still in college,” Brenda says once again pulling away. Jax sighs and responds, “Sweetie, when I look at you I do not see a young, frivolous college girl…I see someone way past her years but still has this perfect innocence and I love it.” “You have seen so much in all aspects of life and I am not just talking about sex…I am so naïve and unworldly,” Brenda says.

Have a little faith in me
Have a little faith in me
Have a little faith in me
Have a little faith in me
When your secret heart
Cannot speak so easily
Come here darlin'
From a whisper start
To have a little faith in me
And when your back's against the wall
Just turn around and you will see
I will catch; I will catch your fall baby
Just have a little faith in me

“Listen closely Brenda, I am going to show you all the things I have ever seen and more…we will go on adventures together…and all the women I have ever had could not even come close to you,” Jax says embracing her. “But Jax…” Brenda says. Jax puts his finger over her lips and whispers; “Do you trust me?” Brenda nods and Jax says, “Have a little faith in the fact that you are the only woman for me and always will…I could never love someone like I love you.”

Well, I've been loving you for such a long time girl
Expecting nothing in return
Just for you to have a little faith in me
You see time, time is our friend
'Cause for us there is no end
And all you gotta do is have a little faith in me
I said I will hold you up, I will hold you up
Your love gives me strength enough
So have a little faith in me

Brenda looks up at him with her eyes glistening and says, “How did I ever get so lucky and find you?” “Brenda, I ask myself the same thing about you all the time…and I take you as you come…insecurities and flaws…all of it,” Jax says kissing a tear on her cheekbone. “And I will do the same with you…I promise,” Brenda says smiling. “Hey no one is going to leave…nobody leaves,” Jax says scooping her up as Brenda whispers back, “Nobody leaves…”
