Roaring Love: Chapter 23

“Oh my God…no, it can’t be,” Brenda says standing back holding her hand over her mouth in shock. “Brenda, please listen,” Veronica cries as Brenda begins to slam the door. “You are alive?” Brenda chokes as tears start to stream down her face. “Brenda, I can explain everything if you would just let me,” Veronica replies holding her arms out to Brenda.

“Brenda, who is it?” Jax asks coming downstairs. Jax stops in his tracks when he sees Brenda’s tearstained face. “It’s my mother…she’s alive,” Brenda says shaking her head. “Brenda, are you sure this is your mother?” Jax asks placing his hands on her shoulders. “Of course I am her mother, Mr.Jacks!” Veronica yells. “Come in, please,” Jax says as Veronica storms in. “Explain exactly how you are Veronica Barrett and if you are, why in the hell are you here?” Jax asks in anger. “I want to see my daughter,” Veronica replies softly.

Brenda looks up from the couch and whispers; “My mother has been dead for nineteen years… why would you play such a mean trick?” “Brenda Veronica Barrett, I am your mother… I survived that drowning and I have had amnesia for sixteen years,” Veronica says sitting down besides Brenda. “And what about the other three years…if you are my mother than why didn’t you come and find me or Julia right away?” Brenda says standing up and walking towards Jax. Veronica takes a deep breath and says, “My memory only came back in pieces…I did not even remember I had two daughters until eight months ago and I was so scared you and Julia would reject me so I stayed away.”

“And did you just expect me to welcome you with open arms if you showed up at my door without any warning?” Brenda asks throwing her arms up in haste. “No, but if I had not come, I would have always wondered…I just want my daughters back,” Veronica responds. “And how do we know you just don’t want Brenda for her money and this is all a hoax?” Jax snaps. “Brenda recognized me the moment she opened the door,” Veronica says smoothing her dress. “Yes but you could just be some impersonator who somehow found out about my mother and her family,” Brenda replies while arching her right eyebrow in suspicion.

“Well, I do have proof…I was just hoping to give you this on a special occasion,” Veronica says opening her purse. “My mother did not have anything of mine to prove she was my mother…she just was,” Brenda says shaking her head in anger. “You were so young, you forget,” Veronica says, pulling out the ID bracelet with Brenda’s initials. “B.V.B,” Brenda whispers with tears reforming. “Brenda, you gave that to me the day you thought I died…you cried and insisted that I put it on… I took it and somehow it remained on my wrist and I have had it ever since,” Veronica says with a smile.

“Brenda, is that your bracelet?” Jax asks. Brenda begins to sob and whispers, “It still even has the small scratch next to the V when I fell at the park one day with Julia.” Jax embraces Brenda and Veronica says, “Brenda, I know that me showing up has shocked you but I had to see you…when I saw that modeling billboard, I saw how beautiful my daughter had become and how much I wanted to know her. “What about Julia, doesn’t she deserve to know as well… and do you just want me for my money?” Brenda yells.

“Brenda, I loved you from the moment I held you in my arms and I have not been able to find Julia and no I do not want you for your money,” Veronica screams back. “How dare you yell at her?” Jax says stepping in between the mother and daughter. “I am just so frustrated…Brenda, I love you so much and I am so mad that missed so many years of your life but I am here to make it up to you if you will let me,” Veronica says pulling Brenda into her arms. “You were the woman on the elevator?” Brenda says pulling back at the touch of her mother’s skin. Veronica nods and replies, “Yes, I was going to say something but I was so scared.” “You are my mother but I have not had a mother for nineteen years…I have a lot to think about,” Brenda says softly. “I understand…if you want me to leave town, I will understand but please remember that I do love you and I want to be apart of your life,” Veronica says smiling.

“I think you better go now,” Brenda says turning away. Jax walks over and opens the door. Veronica glances at Brenda and then walks out. Brenda turns around and whispers, “Jax, I am so confused.” Jax kisses her forehead and says softly, “I know Brenda…I know.”

That Night…

Brenda stands by the window with tears in her eyes. So much had happened today and in such a small amount of time. Brenda sighs and watches a star falls through the sky and she closes her eyes slowly. She feels two arms entwine around her waist and her eyes flutter open. “Hi,” she says quietly. “Sweetie, you have not eaten all day…your eyes are not sparkling like they always do,” Jax whispers into her ear and Brenda pulls away.

“Jax, I don’t know how to react to all of this…my mother, who I thought was dead for all these years is not and she wants to be part of my life,” Brenda says wiping her eyes. Jax cups her face and responds; “You are not in this alone…we are going to get through this together.” “Jax, I have never been so scared and this is my mother!” Brenda says shaking her head. “Brenda that is natural…allow yourself to feel the pain and confusion,” Jax says hugging her. “I don’t know what I would do if I did not have you,” Brenda says sobbing against Jax’s shoulder. Jax’s hand glides across her midnight hair and he pulls her face away from his chest and looks into her glistening eyes.

“Do you know how strong you are? You survived that hell with Sonny Corinthos and you will do the same with this,” Jax says. “I wish I could believe that…will you just hold me?” Brenda asks crying softly now. “You did not even have to ask,” Jax says scooping her up as their bodies crash onto the couch. Jax kisses the tip of her nose and she closes her eyes. She was so perfectly beautiful…

They took the moonlight out of the skies

Jax smiles when he hears the rhythmic breathing…she was at peace for tonight.

“What do you mean Brenda’s mother is alive?” Jerry asks at lunch with Jax the next day. “Jerry, it is so complicated and confusing that I don’t even know what to think,” Jax says sipping his water. “Do you want me have her checked out?” Jerry asks. “Yes, anything and nothing…I want to assured that is truly is Brenda’s mother and not some phony,” Jax says shaking his head.

“How is Brenda doing?” Jerry asks with concern. “She is feeling somewhat better…she still wants to do the shoot for the February campaign so she is upstairs right now,” Jax responds. “Is she nuts?” Jerry asks in disbelief. “Jerry, she wants to feel normal and going to work is one of the ways,” Jax says shrugging. “Okay…I am going start in on this now…I will call you tonight,” Jerry says sanding up. “Thanks,” Jax responds. “Welcome little brother,” Jerry says walking out. Jax throws down his napkin in despair.

2 hours later…

“You look amazing,” Jax says handing Brenda a bouquet of red roses. “Thanks but I feel gross,” Brenda says shaking her head. “You are anything but,” Jax says gazing at her. Her long brown hair was straight and shiny with a white band around her forehead. She was wearing a short flapper style dress with fringe and her cheeks with rosy with a mauve rolled onto her lips. “I hope I don’t mess up,” she says giggling nervously. “Darling, you shall be magnificent,” Jax says kissing her hand. “Thanks,” Brenda responds.

“Brenda, over here,” William says pointing to a setup. The backdrop had Brenda at a party with dancers and men playing poker and drinking scotch. The new slogan said, “Roar Away With Roaring Fragrance.” Roaring Faces was now expanding and Jax knew Brenda would sell it to the promoters. The camera begins flashing and Brenda smiles brilliantly and plays with the camera. Jax smiles at her and she grins…he always set her heart fluttering.

“Okay Brenda, more serious…just want to see how it looks with the backdrop,” William says. Brenda thinks to herself, “Oh well…I won’t have too much trouble looking sad.”

Brenda walks into the penthouse…Jax was still at the shoot, finishing up business. Brenda feels something below her. It was a folded up note that said “Brenda.” Brenda takes a deep breath and opens and begins to read… “Dear Brenda…”

“Jerry, you are already back,” Jax says as he walks into the hotel. “Yes and Jax, I got every single thing on Veronica…and she is Brenda’s mother…”

Music- Like I have said, the songs are taken from the 20’s and 30’s to go along with the story…
