Truly, Madly, Deeply-Chapter 18

“Jax will fall in love with me if it is the last thing I do,” Chloe giggles in delight. “Chloe, do not underestimate Jax and Brenda… they are in love and your silly pranks may not work,” Hannah says flipping through her Cosmopolitan Magazine. “Please, Hannah Banana, Jax and Brenda are never going to be together again… I can promise it!” Chloe says rubbing cocoa butter into her flat tummy.

“Can you?” Jax says walking out by the pool. “Jax, hi!” Chloe says her cheeks turning a crimson shade. “Hannah, Miranda, would you please excuse Chloe and I?” Jax asks with anger in his blue eyes that had suddenly darkened. “Of course,” Miranda squeaks as she pulls Hannah’s arm and they run back into the Morgan mansion.

“Jax, what a nice surprise!” Chloe exclaims smiling brightly. “Oh you may not being saying that after you hear what I have to say,” Jax says crossing his arms and glaring at her. “Okay…” Chloe responds nervously. “Start explaining your whole little plan to break up me and Brenda,” Jax says.

Brenda drives down the road towards the Morgan Mansion, gripping the wheel as tightly as possible. She was not about to let Chloe Morgan ruin the best thing that had ever happened to her. She was not about to let her love for Jax go.

She drives up the long driveway and parks. She runs up to the door and rings the doorbell. Claude answers and Brenda storms in. “May I please see Miss Morgan?” Brenda says trying to smile. “Of course… Miss Morgan is out by the pool… straight ahead, Miss?” Claude responds. “Miss Barrett… thank you so much,” Brenda says as she races down the hallway with each step filling her with more boiling anger.

Claude shakes his head… Chloe had really gotten herself into trouble this time.

“Jax, I just know that Brenda is bad news, that is why I hired Mike to break you up!” Chloe wails as Jax gazes at her in disgust. “Do you even realize what you have done, Chloe?” Jax says clenching his fists. “Jax, I am sorry but I have feelings for you… you would not even take the time to notice me!” Chloe exclaims placing her hands on his chest.

“And that gives you the right to harass Brenda and I?” Jax asks. “Well… it seemed like a good idea at the time, Jax,” Chloe says with tears forming in her hazel eyes. “Seemed like a good idea? Chloe, I am in love with Brenda and thanks to you, she and I may never find a way back to each other,” Jax responds shaking his head.

“Jax, I would never hurt you!” Chloe says pulling his lips to hers.

Brenda walks to the sliding glass doors and a glimpse of golden hair comes into her view. There was Jax talking to Chloe. “Maybe he is trying to find the truth and we will be together,” she whispers and then she slides the door open.

At that moment, Chloe and Jax’s lips meet in a kiss. Brenda’s eyes blur with tears and Jax pulls away from Chloe’s embrace and sees Brenda. Brenda breaks off in a sprint as Jax screams her name. “Brenda, it is not what you think!” Jax yells as Brenda races off through the mansion and into her car.

She pulls away just as Jax comes out of the house. He tries to catch up with the car but it was no use. She had already speeded down the street and turned down the corner. “Jax, what happened?” Chloe says coming out in her clad bikini with an innocent expression on her face.

“What happened?” Jax asks in disbelief. “Yes,” Chloe asks. “Are you that far gone? Brenda saw us kiss but she thought I was going along with it… she did not know that you were the one who pulled me into that kiss,” Jax shouts. “Jax, you were responding, admit it!” Chloe yells back with her hands on her hips. “I was not responding… I was so shocked that you would pull that I did not react right away… I would never kiss you again in a million years!” Jax screams back.

“You are simply impossible!” Chloe says stomping her leopard sandal against the pavement. “You should talk… you are a spoiled brat and I never ever want to hear from or see you again!” Jax says walking to his car. “But Jax, give us a chance,” Chloe says. “I will never forgive you for what you have done… I would advise you stay as far away from Brenda and I as possible,” Jax says turning on the car. “But…” Chloe responds. “Goodbye Chloe,” Jax says pulling out of the driveway and drives down the street speedily.

Brenda walks into the dance studio and sighs as she sees the little girls warming up for class. Mademoiselle Alexandra was on vacation to Paris to visit her parents and had asked Brenda to lead some of her classes that week. As much as she loved dancing, it was the last thing on her mind right now.

The little girls were identically dressed in long-sleeved black leotards and white tights and their hair in buns. After she had seen Jax with Chloe, she had returned home and realized it was her turn to lead class. The only benefit was the class would be a distraction from the pain she was feeling.

“Okay girls, we need to work on the routines for the last recital,” Brenda says clapping her hands for silence. The girls all run over to the bar and stand in first position. “Great… Lisa, Beth, and Heidi… show me what you have come up with so far,” Brenda says.

“Mademoiselle Barrett, can you put on our music?” Heidi asks with her hazel eyes shining with excitement. Brenda smiles. She would give anything to be a child again… without any worries or pain from falling in love. “Do you have the CD?” Brenda asks. Lisa steps forward and hands it to Brenda.

“Okay get ready!” Brenda exclaims as she places the CD in the stereo. “What track number?” Brenda asks. “Six,” Beth says giggling in excitement.

Tears fill Brenda’s eyes as she watches the three little girls pirouette and leap through the studio. She could not help remember Jax singing the song to her on the beach the first time he had ever said he loved her. The girls finish the routine and Heidi asks, “Did you like our dance? … We picked the song because “Dirty Dancing” is our favorite movie.” “Girls, it was wonderful… just keep your backs a little straighter on the leg lifts but other than that it was perfect,” Brenda replies.

Brenda calls the next group up front and sighs. “What song have you chosen, girls?” Brenda asks with a smile. A little blond-haired named Kate hands the CD to Brenda. “Which track?” Brenda says holding her breath. “Three… Truly, Madly, Deeply!” Kate says cheerfully. Brenda tries to smile… it was going to be a very long two hours.

Jax knocks on Brenda’s door anticipating seeing her beautiful face. The door opens and Lois answers. “What do you want, Jax?” Lois says crossing her arms. “I think you know I want to see Brenda,” Jax says softly. “Jax, you treated Brenda horribly!” Lois says placing her hands on her hips. “Lois, I have to explain some things to Brenda that will change everything…please!” Jax says trying to look past Lois to see if Brenda was there.

“Jax, she saw you and that witch Chloe kissing at the Morgan Estate… you broke her heart!” Lois yells with her blue eyes blazing. “Listen Lois… I do not want to get into a fight… I know you are pregnant… please just tell me where she is!” Jax says taking Lois’s hands in his with desperation on his face.

“I am sorry Jax but I promised her I would not tell you and I am going to honor Brenda’s wishes,” Lois says. “Okay… I will find her myself!” Jax says pulling away and running towards his car. “Jax, if you hurt her, I will never let you see her again!” Lois yells as Jax pulls away.

Brenda wipes a drip of sweat from her forehead. After class was over, she had decided to dance to help relieve some of the tension she was feeling from the last couple of day’s events. She sips some water and slides on her PCU sweatshirt. Dancing always helped to clear her thoughts. She closes up the studio and walks out to the parking lot.

She gets into her car. She closes her eyes and Jax’s blue eyes appear in her head. “God, I am so in love with him,” she whispers placing her head against the headrest of her seat. It was as if part of her heart was missing now that he was not there with her. “He fills my body, my heart… my soul,” Brenda thinks to herself as she turns on the car. Her mind drifts to that day at the beach when they declared their love for each other…

“…I am truly, madly, deeply in love with you, Brenda Barrett…” echoes in her head. Those words that Jax had said to her melted her heart. She could not go home right away… she needed to sort through everything.

“What are we going to do about her?” Lois asks Robin as they sit at the kitchen table. “Lois, I have no idea what to do… she is so in love with him… this must be killing her,” Robin responds while taking a sip of tea. “You know, Robin… I have known Brenda for about four years now and I had never seen her as happy or at ease with herself as she was these last couple of months,” Lois says.

“I know… it was as if this light inside of her came alive… she glowed more and more everyday,” Robin replies. “Love will do that to you,” Lois says gloomily. “Men… we can’t live with them and we can’t live without them,” Robin giggles.

“You have got that right, girlfriend,” Lois says laughing. “The most important thing is comforting Brenda through this…that is all we can do,” Robin says. “I know… I know,” Lois says nodding in agreement.

“I cannot believe Jax found out!” Chloe screams as Hannah and Miranda exchange amused glances. “Chloe, it is your own fault… grow up!” Miranda yells back. “What did you just say to me Miranda Jameson?” Chloe says with her hazel eyes piercing into Miranda’s light brown ones. “You heard me… you could not let well enough alone… Jax loves Brenda, Brenda loves Jax!” Miranda shoots back.

“Some friend you are… I know Hannah is my only true friend!” Chloe says smiling with a smug expression. Hannah jumps up and says, “Oh Miss Morgan, how wrong you can be sometimes!” “Hannah, do not even say you agree with Miranda!” Chloe says.

“I do… it is your fault that Jax hates you now… no one else,” Hannah says shaking her head in disgust. “But… I had my reasons!” Chloe exclaims. “I bet you did!” Miranda says rolling her eyes. “Chloe, Miranda and I have sat for the last five years and watched you get whatever you wanted… it is about time the rug got pulled out from under you,” Hannah says.

“Let’s go,” Miranda says grabbing her purse. Hannah bites her lip and takes her bag too and they walk out. Chloe takes her pillow and throws it against the wall and screams, “I hate people!” Claude walks in and says, “Chloe, if you do not stop your childish whining, you will get a good kick in the pants… now, excuse me.” Claude walks out and Chloe shakes her head in amazement. “Unbelievable!” she says and then crashes into her pillows and groans.

Jax pulls onto the cliff where he had brought Brenda on their first date. He smiles as he sits in his car. He had her close her eyes and then look up the sky and then look at him. It had been one of the most magical nights of his life. Her face had lit up that night when their lips met. He could still taste her lips against his and the way her hair smelled like lilacs that night. He could not… he would not lose her. He loved her more than he thought he was ever capable of. She completed him in every way possible.

Jax sees a light from a car pull in. He goes to put his key in the ignition and then looks up. It was Brenda’s Jetta pulling up right next to him. He jumps out as she steps out. She did not even see him yet.

“Brenda,” Jax whispers and she turns around with shock on her face. “What are you doing here?” she asks coldly. “I came here to clear my head,” Jax responds walking towards her. “Don’t come near me… go find Chloe,” Brenda says turning away from him.

“Brenda, let me explain!” Jax says turning her body towards his. “Explain what… as soon as you thought you could not trust me, you went to another woman for comfort!” Brenda yells pulling away. “Brenda, I did not turn to Chloe… I went to confront her about framing us and she grabbed and kissed me… you just happened to walk in just as she kissed me,” Jax says.

“A likely story, Jax… I will not be played for a fool!” Brenda yells. “I know that Bren,” Jax says nodding. “Then stop for a second and realize why I feel the way I do… You think I cheated on you so you go and t cheat on me to get even!” Brenda exclaims. “Brenda, I do trust you… I do… when I told you to get out of my house; I was so confused… I did not know what to think or do,” Jax says with his eyes filling with tears.

“I realize you may have been confused but I am sorry… if you loved me enough, you would trust me,” Brenda responds. “Brenda, I am so new at this serious relationship thing… I do not know how to react to every situation with you,” Jax says. “Tell me this… was our whole relationship a joke to you?” Brenda asks. Jax looks down at her and says, “How could you even think that… I love you so much that I can only think of you… I dream about you even when I am with you… Brenda, you are my soulmate,” Jax whispers softly as he says the last words.

Tears form in Brenda’s eyes at Jax’s words. “Do you mean that… truly?” Brenda asks quietly. “With everything in me… you complete me,” Jax responds cupping her face. “Jax, I love you so much that I cannot even see straight when I am not with you but I want you to trust me without any doubts in your mind and I want to trust you completely,” Brenda says looking up at him. “Brenda, I really do trust you and if it takes the rest of your life to realize it, I will prove it to you,” Jax responds. “Oh yeah… prove it,” Brenda says smiling slightly.

Jax cups her chin in his hand. She closes her dark eyes and feel raindrops begin to fall softly onto her skin. Jax kisses her eyelids, her cheekbones, the tip of her nose. A crack of thunder startles them and they jump apart. Jax grazes her cheek with his hand and smiles. He pulls her close and presses her lips to his own, mixed with raindrops.

Their bodies press closely together, as their clothes become soaked. Brenda runs her hands in Jax’s golden, wet waves. Her moist kisses were leaving him weak. “I love you so much… always,” he mumbles as she kisses the cleft of his chin. “I know… always,” she says placing her head against his chest and smiling. “Brenda, I will never doubt you again,” Jax says kissing the top of her wet chocolate hair. “Ditto,” she says grinning through the curtain of rain between them. Jax scoops her up and twirls her around. “I am also never letting you go ever again,” Jax says gazing into her eyes with tenderness.

“I am going to hold you to that,” Brenda responds. “You better,” Jax chuckles meeting her pink lips in another sweet kiss…
