Truly, Madly, Deeply-Chapter 15

“Hi girls… I am home from Alaska!” Brenda hollers as she enters her house. Robin and Lois run down. “We missed you,” Robin says pulling Brenda into a hug. “I missed you so much… I was not gone for that long but still…” Brenda says with her dimples deepening. “Let me take your bags,” Robin says taking Brenda’s suitcases and placing them at the bottom of the stairs. “Thanks so much,” Brenda says plopping on the couch and sighing in exhaustion. “Good trip?” Robin asks as she and Lois sit on the opposite couch.

“Yes, yes, yes… it was great and Jax’s parents are so nice,” Brenda says glowing. “I am so happy for you, Bren,” Robin says smiling. Brenda looks over at Lois and realizes her friend had not said one word. “Lo… why are you so quiet?” Brenda says with concern in her chocolate eyes. Robin and Lois glance at each other. “Spill it,” Brenda says with her eyes wide open in curiosity.

Lois takes a deep breath and says, “Well, Bren… the day that you left I was really nervous because my period was five days late… Robin and I went to buy a pregnancy test…” “Lo, are you telling me you are pregnant with Ned’s baby?” Brenda says trying to catch her breath. Lois nods and continues, “And I was so nervous about telling Ned and then to make a long story short, he put two and two together and then he proposed to me.” “Shut up!” Brenda exclaims taking Lois’s left hand in her right one. “That’s two carats, Lois,” Brenda says jumping up.

Robin stands up and says, “And Ned was going to ask her to marry her even before he knew about her being pregnant.” “Lo, this keeps getting better and better,” Brenda giggles. “I know… he was going to ask me tomorrow night but since I told him about the baby, he decided to ask me right then and there,” Lois says with her blue eyes shining.

Brenda walks over and places her hand against Lois’s stomach and says, “You are going to have the most beautiful baby ever… the baby will definitely have the best dimples anywhere in the world.” “I know… I cannot wait… I was so scared but now that I am sure of Ned and I… I think it is the best thing that could have ever happened…” Lois says twirling around. “A blessing in disguise,” Robin says laughing. The three girls grab each other’s hands and Brenda whispers, “We are three of a kind.”

Keep smilin' keep shinin'
Knowing you can always count on me for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for…

“Look at us,” Lois says laughing. Brenda’s nose was running and Robin wipes mascara from her under her eyes. “I do not think the three of us have ever been so happy,” Brenda says jumping up. “Yes, Miss Barrett… I would have to agree with you,” Robin says throwing her arms up. “Girls night out!” Lois says laughing. “Yes!” Robin and Brenda say in unison.

“So Jasper, how did Mum and Dad like Brenda?” Jerry says walking out by the pool with Julia on his arm. Jax chuckles and replies, “They adored her and I have some exciting new, Jerry.” “Is Brenda moving in?” Julia says shaking her head. “No, but another woman in our life is,” Jax says mysteriously. “Do not even tell me it is Jilly… please say it isn’t so, Jax,” Jerry says crossing his arms.

“Afraid so, big brother… Jilliane somehow convinced them that Port Charles would be a learning experience for her and that you and I would be a good influence on her,” Jax says laughing. “That little schemer… I am so proud of her for conning Mum and Dad,” Jerry says clapping his hands together.

Jax sees a flash of gold out of the corner of his eye and he says, “Jerry, what the hell is on your finger?” Jerry looks and Julia and smiles and responds, “Oh yes… by the way, Julia and I got married last night.” “What?” Jax says with his dropping open. “Well we were in Madrid and we were having such a grand time that we wanted to have some fun,” Jerry says chuckling and kissing Julia’s forehead.

“For fun? … Jerry, marriage is about commitment… not fun,” Jax says with his face turning red. “Jax, we are in love… this is not a joke,” Julia says quietly with hurt in her eyes. He looks up and saw the same expression of the woman he loved. Brenda and Julia’s sadness showed in the same ways.

“I am sorry… Julia, Jerry… I am just very shocked…please accept my apologies,” Jax says standing up and walking over to the married couple. He pulls Julia into a hug and whispers in her ear, “I am glad he found you… keep an eye on him.” “Oh believe me when I say… I will!” Julia exclaims laughing hysterically. Jerry pats Jax on the back and chuckles, “That’s more like it little brother… at least you know that you already like my wife’s immediate family.” “Very true…more than you know,” Jax says with his eyes shining. Jerry and Julia glance at each other with knowing glances.

“When are you going to tell Bren?” Jax says coming out of his daydream. “Actually, we are going over there now,” Julia says smiling. “Like to come?” Jerry asks. “Sure… I would not mind seeing the only Miss Barrett now,” Jax says laughing. “Great,” Jerry says as the three head into the house.

“Claudia, this outfit makes me look dreadful!” Chloe says looking at herself in the dress in her full-length mirror. “Miss Morgan, I designed it exactly as you sketched it,” Claudia says with perspiration forming on her forehead. Chloe was notorious for sketching a dress and then hating it once it came to life on her body.

“I understand that Claudia but it does not suit me,” Chloe says biting her bottom lip in a pout. “Darling, you look beautiful,” Bruce Morgan says as he enters his daughter’s bedroom. “But Daddy, pink is not my color!” Chloe says putting her hands on her small waist. “Sweetie, calm down… you look perfect as always,” Bruce says sitting on her bed. “Well, I guess it will have to do for Katherine’s cocktail party… Claudia, could you just pull in the waist slightly?” Chloe says in a sugary voice. “Of course,” Claudia responds taking the dress and leaving the room.

“What’s going on, Daddy?” Chloe says sitting down next to him. “What are you up to?” Bruce asks. “What do you mean?” Chloe says in confusion. “Chloe, I have seen the way you have been acting ever since that day Mr. Jacks was in my office in Boston… you always have this “expression” when you are being devious,” Bruce says smiling. “Daddy, I am not up to anything,” Chloe says in defense.

“Can I trust you to behave?” Bruce asks. “Daddy, of course I will behave,” Chloe says leaning over and giving him a kiss on the cheek. “Good,” Bruce says standing up. “Bye,” Chloe says waving him out. “Bye, honey,” Bruce says leaving the room.

“Daddy, you are way too trusting,” Chloe says giggling in delight.

“You got married!” Brenda says slumping onto the couch. “Yes, we did,” Julia says smiling from ear to ear. “When did you find out?” Brenda says looking at Jax. “An hour ago,” Jax says laughing. “Wow,” Brenda says. “Please be happy for me,” Julia says taking Brenda’s hands in her own

“I am, Jules… just a little surprised,” Brenda says hugging her sister. “Thank you,” Julia says with her eyes watering. “We have to go, Julia,” Jerry says standing up. “Where the hell are you going now… you just got back,” Jax says shaking his head. “We are going on an African Safari for our honeymoon,” Julia says giggling. “We will gone for two weeks… and Jax, do not tell Mum and Dad… I will when we get back,” Jerry says. “Okay… whatever you want,” Jax responds. “Bye!” Julia and Jerry say in unison as they leave the house. “Bye,” Jax and Brenda respond as the door slams

“Unbelievable!” Brenda says stamping her foot. “You are mad, I take it,” Jax says in amusement. “Words fail, Jax… my own sister got married and I did not see it… so typical of Julia,” Brenda says with her face turning red. “Bren, I was annoyed to but it is there life and we should be happy for them,” Jax says grabbing her hands in his own.

“I know but it took such a long time for Julia and I to be close again and then she does things like this and I get so mad!” Brenda exclaims. “Well, let me make you happy,” Jax murmurs pulling her into his embrace. “Jax, not right now… I am not in the mood,” Brenda whines. “Oh yada, yada, yada… I know I can put you in a good mood,” Jax says kissing her neck as she tries to pull away. “No, you really cannot,” Brenda responds, knowing she was losing the battle.

Love, love
You make me feel like a sticky pistil
leaning into a stamen
You make me feel like a mister sunshine
Himself
You make me feel like splendor in the grass
While we're rollin'
Damn skippy baby

“I bet you that I can,” Jax says whispering in her ear, sending shivers up her back. Brenda gives in and pulls his lips to hers. She urgently kisses him and her tongue dives into his mouth aggressively. Jax pulls away and says, “Maybe we should fight more often.” “Ha, ha…” Brenda says trying to catch her breath. “Feel better?” Jax asks pulling her once again into his embrace. “I do feel so, so much better,” Brenda says kissing his neck. “I thought so,” Jax says kissing her again.

“Wanna go upstairs?” Jax says scooping her up. Brenda looks at him and jumps out of his arms and replies, “I can’t… it is a girls night out.” “You mean you cannot go to Kathy Bell’s cocktail party with me tonight?” Jax says sticking out his bottom lip. Brenda bursts out laughing and responds, “Kathy? … After that Cassadine shindig, I never want to go to one of those parties again.” “You met me,” Jax says in an offended voice. “Yes, dear… that was the only positive thing and as I remember, you were hiding too,” Brenda says knowingly. “You got me,” Jax says shaking his head.

“So I will suffer with you in spirit,” Brenda says wrapping her arms around his body. “I will be thinking of you,” Jax responds. “Can I come over tomorrow morning and we can have breakfast?” Brenda asks. “But of course, Mademoiselle Barrett… I will cook pancakes and eggs galore,” Jax says in a French accent. “Sounds heavenly,” Brenda giggles. “Believe me… it will,” Jax, says kissing her and pulling away. “Bye hot stuff,” Brenda says laughing. Jax turns red and rolls his eyes and walks out. Life was good… life was very good, Brenda thinks to herself.

“Bren, pizza’s here!” Lois screams as Brenda runs down the stairs in her white t-shirt and pajama pants with clouds printed on them and a pink face mask on. “I’m ready,” Robin says cheerfully coming from the kitchen with diet cokes and a bowl of popcorn in her hand.

Lois runs to the door and pays and then brings the aroma of spicy marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese and dough back into the living room. “Movie time!” Brenda says. “What are the choices, Miss Barrett,” Robin says in a serious tone. “Let’s see… we can go with Tom Cruise in “Top Gun”, comical Matthew Broderick in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, or Patrick Swayze in “Dirty Dancing,” Brenda says laughing. “Patrick Swayze!” they all say in unison.

As Robin pops the movie into the VCR, Brenda and Lois open up the three pizza boxes. “Who ordered pizza with anchovies and pineapple?” Brenda says in disgust. “That’s me,” Lois says grabbing the box and placing it on her lap. “Cravings already?” Robin say giggling. “God no, this is just my favorite pizza,” Lois says taking a big bite of cheese and a bite of pineapple. “Lo, you are nuts,” Brenda says laughing.

Robin goes and turns the lights out and the movie begins to play. The first scenes comes on and a familiar tune begins to play…

The night we met I knew I needed you so
And if I had the chance I'd never let you go.
So won't you say you love me?
I'll make you so proud of me.
We'll make 'em turn their heads every place we go.

So won't you, please,
Be My
Be My
Baby
Be my little Baby
My one and only, baby
Say you'll be my darlin',
Be My
Be My
BABY, be my baby now
My one and only baby
Wha-oh-oh-oh.

Brenda, Lois, and Robin’s eyes remained glued to the T.V for the next hour and a half.

“No thanks, AJ, I have already been to Sweden four times,” Chloe says rolling her eyes at the young Quartemaine. Sure he was very good-looking and wealthy to boot but he was not Jasper Jacks.

Chloe smoothes out her tight, sleeveless, magenta dress and looks around for any sign of Jax. Hannah was dancing with some dark-haired man who looked like he was something out of the “Godfather.” Chloe rolls her eyes… Hannah always had the worst taste. Miranda was chatting with Mac Scorpio but he looked quite bored to say the least. “That will not happen to me, tonight,” Chloe says standing on her tiptoes to find Jax.

Her eyes focus on the entrance and there he was… looking more gorgeous than usual. His hair was completely slicked back and his navy blue suit looked fabulous. She licks her lips in anticipation…

(Oh-oh, here she comes)
Watch out boy she'll chew you up
(Oh-oh, here she comes)
She's a man-eater
(Oh-oh, here she comes)
Watch out boy she'll chew you up
(Oh-oh, here she comes)
She's a man-eater

“Here goes nothing…,” she thinks to herself as she heads toward the man she was going to marry.

“He is so hot in that movie,” Brenda says shaking her head. “Girlfriend, I think Ned is up for some competition!” Lois says waving her electric blue nails around. “Ready for a little truth or dare?” Robin asks. “I am game,” Brenda says happily. The three sit and begin to ask questions. Brenda thinks to herself, “I wonder if Jax is having a good time yet…”
