Hi everyone!

Thank you all for the responses on the last chapter. They mean a lot to me. :). I promise the next chapter won't take so long to get out since
I'm out of summer school...yay!...and have a little more time on my hands. This chapter is a little short. The reason is, is that I'm trying to
get this story done before Jax's exit happens on GH, which translates into less time to finish a story so it'll be shorter. Did that make any
sense? This also means I'm going to be posting more often...so look for the next chapter soon! Enjoy!

Lissie :)

Chapter 2

“Jax,” Alexis said as she climbed down into the galley of Jax’s sailboat, “you know I would do anything for you, but this is rather extreme.
It’s three o clock in the morning!”

“Ned will get over it, this is more important.”

Jax sat at the table in the small galley of his boat. Papers were spread over every inch of the table. He was thoroughly examining them, and
hadn’t bothered to look up from the papers to look at her when she spoke.

“Who said anything about Ned?” Alexis said, taking a seat next to Jax at the table.

“You’re breathing when I answered the phone.” Jax explained, looking at her for the first time since she came in the boat. “It was pretty
heavy for someone who was supposed to be sleeping. Ned was also a little loud when he told you to hang up the phone.”

“Oh.” Alexis blushed. “Why am I here? All you said was that you needed for an important matter. Is this about Chloe?”

“I went to see Helena tonight.”

“You did what? Why?” Alexis asked, surprised.

“She summoned me. I thought she might have some more information about Chloe’s medicine.”

“You didn’t really think she would give the information to you did you?”

“No, but I thought...I don’t know what I thought. She did have some information about Brenda.”

“Brenda?” Alexis asked, confused. “What does Helena know about Brenda?”

“Helena claims she has Brenda.”

“Excuse me?”

“She claims she rescued Brenda from the car crash. She claims she has Brenda well and alive and willing to give her to me if I cooperate
with her.” Jax explained.

“Jax, you’ve got to know she’s playing on your emotions. You were there. You told me yourself that Brenda could not have survived that
crash.”

“I know, but what if she’s telling the truth?” He had a hint of hope in his voice, and that worried Alexis. Anything involving Helena
worried Alexis.

“And what if she’s not? What does she want?”

“That’s another mystery. She wants Chloe.”

“Chloe? How? Why?”

“Something about being related to her.”

“How does she explain that one?”

Jax hands her Chloe’s file. She placed her glasses on her nose and started browsing through the file. She noticed that Chloe’s file had hardly
been touched, and Jax was intently looking at papers that didn’t appear to be from Chloe’s file. She figured they had to do with Brenda,
but she wasn’t sure what.

“What are all these papers that you’re looking at?” Alexis aked.

“Brenda’s hospital records.” Jax answered.

“What records?”

“The ones that Helena gave me.”

Alexis sighed and gently put her hand on his forearm and rubbed it comfortingly. Jax stopped his work and looked at Alexis. He saw
concern and doubt written all over her face.

“Jax, you’ve got to call her bluff. For all we know, these records are fake.”

“I know, but she’s done it before. Bring people back from the dead you know. How do you explain Katharine Bell, or Lucky Spencer, and
god knows who else?”

“I know Jax, but this doesn’t follow her pattern.”

“Pattern? I didn’t realize there was one.” Jax said sarcastically.

“She takes and “rescues” those that would be useful to her. Those that mean a lot to her enemies. Katharine was Stefan’s fiancée, and she
hates Stefan. Lucky is the son of Luke and Laura Spencer whom she holds both responsible for Stavros’ death. When Brenda died, what
would she have gained from attempting one of her “rescues”? You weren’t going after the Cassadine fortune yet, nor did you have any
real contact with Helena or any of the Cassadines for that matter.”

“I don’t know what Helena would have thought she would have gained from kidnapping Brenda, but don’t I owe it to Brenda to find
out?”

“But what if Helena is lying? She could be setting a trap for you. Don’t you owe it to Brenda to let her memory rest in peace? I know she
wouldn’t want you getting yourself hurt for no reason”

“No reason? Alexis this is Brenda’s life we’re talking about. If she’s out there, I need to get her home.”

“All right, I’ll help in any way I can, but Jax, for the record, I think Helena is playing on your emotions for Brenda to get what she wants. I
honestly don’t think she has Brenda.”

“Alexis, please just help me. I know you don’t believe, but I need your help. Think of Ned. You would be doing the same thing if your
were in my shoes.”

“Yes, I would. Tell me what needs to be done.”

“Here, take this letter. It looks like it’s in Brenda’s handwriting, find out if it’s real, and when it was actually written.”

“I’ll need a real sample of Brenda’s handwriting.”

“You have the original L&B documents don’t you? There should be contracts that she signed in there,” Alexis nodded yes before Jax
continued, “I’ll get you some more samples as soon as I can.”

“What is this? It’s so sad.” Alexis said after reading the letter in her hand.

“Helena claims that Brenda wrote it in a drug induced haze. I don’t believe it. Brenda wouldn’t take any drugs after she got addicted to
painkillers. She refused to have surgery on her hip because she didn’t want to be on painkillers. Whatever she wrote there, she must have
been lucid, and miserable. I need to get her out of there.”
“What if she was forced to take drugs?”

Jax glared at Alexis. That possibility was true, but one that he hadn’t wanted to think about.

“You really believe this is true, don’t you?” Alexis asked.

“Yes.” He voiced out loud for the first time, surprising himself. He hadn’t meant to acknowledge those feelings out loud because it would
mean he had more faith in these new findings than he had expected, which meant more heartache in case they weren’t real. “Wouldn’t
you?”

Alexis nodded. Then waited for more instructions from Jax. He had several documents for her to research. Most of them were hospital
records of Brenda’s. Several were adoption papers involving Chloe’s mother. As an infant a wealthy family had adopted her. There was
very little information about her birth parents in the file. By the time Alexis was ready to leave, they still hadn’t figured out what Helena
had to do with Chloe, or what Chloe’s mother adoption papers had to do with anything, but they were determined to figure it out.

“Alexis, this stays between the two of us.”

“You’re not going to tell Chloe?” Alexis asked, surprised.

“No, and you’re not going to tell Ned.”

“But...” She hesitated.

“Alexis, this is Helena we’re dealing with.”

That was all he had to say. She agreed immediately.

“We’ll get to the bottom of this Jax. Helena won’t hurt Chloe or Brenda.” Alexis said, and Jax knew she was only trying to reassure him.
This was all going to work out.

“Thanks Alexis.”

“Anything for my favorite ex husband.” Alexis said and smiled, trying to lighten the mood.

“I’m your only ex husband,” He said, following her lead.

“Point taken. You’re still my favorite.”

“You can stay here the rest of the night,” Jax said, concerned.

“Jax, it’s six in the morning. I have to be at work in an hour.”

Jax looked at his watch. He hadn’t realized it was so late, or rather, so early in the morning.

“Be careful. Helena could be watching. I’m sorry for dragging you into this.”

“Don’t be. You need me, and I’m here to help. Helena’s always watching me. I should be used to it by now.”

Alexis gave Jax a kiss on the cheek before she left the boat. “Helena won’t win, Jax. We’re a good team, just you remember that.”

***
Later in the day Jax was sitting at his desk in his penthouse. Chloe was at L&B getting ready for the new fall line of clothing. He was there
alone. A knock came at the door. He put down the documents he had been looking at...more of Brenda’s medical records, he couldn’t seem
to get her out of his mind and get his mind on business. The man at the door handed him a package, which he signed for.

He wasn’t expecting a package, and there wasn’t a return address, but as soon as he tore it opened, he knew exactly from whom it came.
Helena.

The accompanying note read:

Jax,

Still having doubts? This should ease your mind.

Helena

The package held a videotape that wasn’t labeled. He put the video in the vcr and played it. When the picture appeared on the screen, his
heart jumped. This was more than a handwritten note, this was Brenda. On his screen. Sleeping in a strange room. The camera zoomed into
the picture and focused on her face. It was her. Her long dark hair fell in waves around her shoulder. He wanted to reach out and touch it,
to touch it’s silky softness, to touch her little nose, to outline her mouth with his finger and lean down to kiss her. He had found her. He
needed to get her home.
