I heard you were once homeless. Is this true?
There is some validity to this statement. As a student in Los Angeles, my campus apartment lease ran o without my knowledge. At the same time my part-time job ended. I spent several months malnourished, living at a different friends place every week. But he never was actually living on the street.
Why do you always use a scooter or wheelchair to get around?
My first-grade teacher noticed I stood a little different from the rest of the kids. She informed my parents who sent me to a bunch of doctors to figure out why my fine motor skills are sub-standard. All this time growing up I was on all kinds of sports teams and enjoyed friends. My medical condition, Friedreichs Ataxia (FA), was finally diagnosed in 1993. Though some of the doctors warned my parents of a bleak future I continued to have a fun, happy and productive life as my ability to walk ran low. At the insistence of my mom I began using a scooter when I began high school in 1998. I think Id like to be able to walk again, but a wheelchair/scooter is cool too!
I saw you the other day and said Hey! but you failed to respond. So you dont like me?
Thats not true! FA affects my hearing and vision. My vision isnt bad but I do wear subscription glasses and take eye-drops daily. If I wasnt wearing my glasses its likely I could not see you. But the main issue is my hearing. I have seen several ear specialists but none know how to help. In certain places without much background noise and when the speaker projects clearly I hear great. But when the place is noisy I just hear syllables but cant make out most words. Id love to talk with you, just be loud and clear so I can hear every word.
