TLC FIGHTS BACK. After dropping to no. 2 last week, TLC regains the top spot this week for a 9th week at no. 1 with "No Scrubs". This song will just not die. 'N Sync will have to settle right now for a sole week on top with their latest, "I Drive Myself Crazy", but don't count them off 'cause they might just fight back as well. There's a difference now though... 98 Degrees moves up one spot to no. 2 with "The Hardest Thing" while Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca" jumps up ten spots to no. 4, so they boys will have to deal with them as well if they want to return to the throne.
GREATEST GAINERS. For a second week in a row, this week's greatest gainer is Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca". The song is already no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and will surely have a shot at no. 1 here as soon as next week. Second place goes to Sixpence None The Richer. "Kiss Me" is already a top 3 hit in the USA but it's only now making an impact on this countdown. And finally, Shania Twain scores her third top 20 hit with "That Don't Impress Me Much" by moving up 11 notches to no. 18. Her first two singles, "You're Still The One" and "From This Moment On" were both top 5 hits.
WELCOME BACK BRITNEY. This week, "Sometimes" by Britney Spears comes splashing in at no. 30. After a 7-week chart topper, Ms. Britney is back with what might become her second no. 1 hit. Her previous single, "...Baby One More Time", is destined to be one of the year's top 5 hits and with already 24 weeks on the chart, it will most likely become this chart's longest running single beating Janet's "Together Again" which spent 29 weeks on the chart.
For the week ending on May 8th, 1999.
