Oh my goodness, I
sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo want to see this musical!!! Though what I
really want more than anything is to see Anthony Warlow perform it from the 1994
Concept cast album. We all know that Anthony Warlow is the greatest singer of
all time, right? Well, just know that he is. And then he has sooooo many great
songs, which just makes me so happy!!! Let's see, I'll go through some of my
favorite songs. The first part, Prologue,
is Anthony Warlow speaking a really haunting
passage in that amazing voice of his. Then he has a glorious song called,
I Need To Know,his
power and intensity just blew me away, he is stupendous! Oh, I love him! Then
there's Facade, one
of the many cool ensemble pieces, and it's so true and well done (Though Anthony
doesn't sing, so sad). Then there's Bitch,
Bitch, Bitch. When
I first saw this title I was a little well, um, confused. Then I heard it and I
thought 'Wow, I love that!' I still laugh every time I hear it, the lyrics are
soooo great! The Engagement Party
is cool, we get to see Simon Stride
(and Anthony Warlow sings!). What? You only want me to do my really, really
favorite songs? Fine!
(It was getting long so I paragraphed it: Well I of course love every song where Mr.
Warlow sings, love, love, love, love, love!!! I really like Board
of Governors, one of the coolest songs in the
musical. I like it when all of the governors sing together
(Nay, Nay, Nay, Nay, positively absolutely nay!!!) (Sacrilege, lunacy,
blasphemy, heresy!) Mr. Warlow's 'I leave pretension
like that sir to you' makes me want to say 'nananana' and stick my tongue
out at Simon Stride. And when Anthony Warlow says 'Fools
fools, god damn your rules' I feel like jumping up and dancing and I
always lip sync that part (which gets you weird looks on the bus). 'The
only thing constant is change' is so heartfelt it hurts!
Oh, a whole paragraph on one song, bad Karen! Bring On The Men
is a really great song too (Though Anthony
doesn't sing in it, so sad) The part where it's 'I guess a
rose by any name, the perfume and (pause) the prick's
the same' is soooooo funny, I was caught totally off guard. Linda Eder's
voice is amazing! The whole song is really great! I like her accent in Lucy
Meets Jekyll, And Anthony sings! How Can I Continue On?
is great because, well, Anthony sings (I know, I know, I'm obsessed) and also
because the man who plays Henry's friend John Utterson, really sounds like he
cares, he plays the part really well!
Ok, This is the Moment.
Wow. That's pretty much all I can say. This song left me speechless! This song
makes every one who hears it (at least anyone I've met) want to marry this man.
It makes me want to cry, it's done so beautifully! And that last note? The
Amazing Mr. Warlow holds that flawless note for 16 seconds. 16 Seconds!!!
Wow.
Transformation, Mr.
Warlow sounds thoroughly anxious, so believable. I love it when he just talks,
love that accent. Okay, and his moans and groans as he transforms, amazing.
Though whenever I hear this I think about how silly he must feel to sing and
yell and scream like that in a recording studio in front of other people. Just
shows what a true professional he is. Oh, when he screams I want to hug him and
tell him that everything will be all right! Freeeeee!
Oh, scary! And the music at the end is really nice too.
Lucy Meets Hyde:
Oh, he sounds so evil and mean and, as Christine put it, sexy. Ms. Eder still
has her cool accent and Mr. Warlow really is so great! Oh and he laughs and it
makes my blood run cold! 'After tonight you will never be
alone' help, I want my mommy!
Alive, one
of my very favorite songs. Wow, I so agree with Christine on this one, no matter
how evil and scary he sounds, I would still want to marry him because he sounds
so, Christine's word again, sexy. I love Anthony Warlow's voice! He laughs,
ahhh! I'm here, I fear and you will pay dear my dear.
Try to imagine that with surround sound when you're at home, alone, at night in
the dark, I actually picked up a book to throw if the need arose. Then there's
like half a minute of a heart beat and growling and breathing, I almost threw
the book a few times. Tonight, I'll plunder heaven blind,
steal from all the gods I threw the book and had to pick up a stapler. What
a feeling to be so alive! There goes the stapler. It amazes me how he can
change his voice so substantially and sound so evil. Edward
Hyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyde! (love that note) And that last little growl he does,
wow! (And yes, I did throw the stapler)
Streak of Madness,
I love the overlapping they do, and how torn apart Anthony sounds! Yes, yes, I
realize I'm going on forever, I'm trying to cut myself short! His
Work and Nothing More is great, I love all the
overlapping and John Utterson gives another great performance, he really cares,
he emphasizes at the best times. And when Mr. Warlow says More
than ever now I need a friend Oh, I'll be your friend Anthony!!! And
Carolee Carmello is really good in this song. It's just a really good song.
All of Linda Eder's ballads are beautiful, especially In His Eyes
with Carolee Carmello, but I won't go into those. Why? Because I love Anthony
Warlow. I think Murder, Murder
is one of the best songs out there! (And remember, I am saying this and Anthony
isn't even in this song!) It's so great, so so so so so so so! I don't really
know what I can say other than it's wonderful and it has the greatest beat (even if it's
not the greatest topic). I think that The World
Has Gone Insane is the coolest, it shows
another one of the many facets of Mr. Warlow's talent and also adds a different
type of music to the album. The Girls of the
Night is also really nice (Again, the song
itself, not quite the subject matter, it's like the sad ending part of Lovely
Ladies.) A Dangerous Game,
Anthony Warlow again sounds oh so sexy and Linda Eder's voice is beautiful.
Ah, like the best song ever, Confrontation!
Anthony Warlow must have two different voice boxes, because no one can argue
with themselves like that! Soooooooooooooooo cool, when I first got this I
listened to it 17 times straight because I was sooooo amazed. I mean, he sounds
so heartfelt, I still cry when I listen to it, and it's not even a sad song,
it's just soooo well done. This is one of the greatest non-lesMizsongs ever!!!
And then finally, the Wedding, a great
bit of acting with some great singing, but it is so vivid you actually see what
happens in your head. Hyde sounds even scarier here than before (and I didn't
think that was possible.) Really great ending to a really great musical.
Wow, I should make a web page devoted to Jekyll and Hyde, look at this, I'm
sorry, I put you through that.
I really love this musical! I mean, one
of the songs is called Madame Guillotine, does it get any better than that?
I really like that song, it's so good, (I wish that we could do this at my
school, get to build a guillotine, but stinky Mr. E doesn't want to!)
Sing, swing, Savour the sting, As she severs you, Madame Guillotine, Slice, come
paradise, Our Delilah will shave you razor clean!
I mean, that's cool! And all the lyrics are that
great! Love it! Douglas Sills as Sir Percival Blakeney is really good (though I
sure would love to see Anthony Warlow perform this part, isn't that weird? I
mean, why would I want to see Anthony Warlow in this? ) No, but he's
really good even if he isn't Anthony Warlow and don't even get me started on the
deity that is Terrence Mann! Oh. My. Dear. How could Marguerite not be
seduced? Okay, but I'm getting ahead of myself! Calm, deep breaths Karen...Okay,
I'm fine, let's get into the songs. (Yes, and since I went on and on (and on)
about Jekyll and Hyde I'll try to keep this one short.)
My favorite songs, well Prayer
is definitely up there. Mr. Sills is so amazing in that song it makes me want to
cry (I cry a lot, haven't you noticed, I even did my Sophomore research paper on
crying?). It's just really a beautiful song. Oh,
Loooooord, how could you let me love like this? No one dies upon a kiss And only
fools believe in bliss,
Oh, so beautiful, let me wipe away my tears, oh
no, there's more. God,
no! I'm broken, but I'm still alive And slowly I will feel my soul revive With
time, I'll find a way to right this wrong If it takes my whole life long Lord,
I'll fight my battles all alone But make me strong. Ah, boohoohoo!!!
Into the Fireis just great Yes,
it's into the fire we fly, And the devil will burn! Oh, and then there's
another one of the greatest non-Lesmizsongs (and it's not even by Anthony
Warlow!). The most wondrous supreme being that is Terrence Mann gloriously sings
Falcon in the Dive.
When that man sings Yes, a man grows older but his soul
remains alive, when I hear him say soooouuulll I would almost
think about cheating on Anthony Warlow! (Almost). Oh, I love that! Terrence Mann
is amazing! Then with claws of fire, we devour like a falcon
in the diiiiiiiiiivvveee!!! Oh dear goodness, that's so amazing, I love that song!
The funny songs in this musical are great. The
Scarlet Pimpernel is so funny, And
he'll find me, and he'll wake me, and he'll take me, Down on a haystack (I
would want that line if we did it at my school). I also love The Creation of Man
Of the goosie and the gander, sir Which gender is the
grander, sir To render total candor, sir, the spendour is the male's! (Sophie
still has trouble with that part) or Of the nanny goat and
billy, sir Whose beard is fully wooly, sir? It's bully for the billy for he's
willy-nilly male! (That one too!) You're a nincompoop Blakeney...Let me
be a Roman, don a tunic, bear the legs, eh wot? Sink me, the man's lost his
senses! Oh, it's a great song! And They
Seek Him Here is so funny! Oh,
Pimpy, how the Frenchies do implore you Simply to stay home in bed With
all your interference It's a chore to chop a head! ::laughs inanely::
Just a great song!
There's also a bunch of really great love songs, oooooooo!!! My personal
favorite being that of Chauvelin (Terrence Mann, that hunk of great singing!).
When he sings Where's the Girl?
it's pretty much 'Anthony Warlow who?' No, no, kidding! Sophie has
actually been converted to a Mann Fan, she can't get enough of him! And who
wouldn't be with lyrics like: 'And
I know she remembers how fearless it feels To take off with the wind at her
heels She and I took this world like a storm Come again! Let the girl in your
heart tumble free Bring your renegade heart home to me In the dark of the morning, I'll warm you
I'll rouse you' sung
in that sultry voice of his. I swear, Katie made me listen to this
song about 50 times in a row! That's a great song! Oh, and the Reprise
of that, where he sings Let
her go, let her live, let her die on her own
We are all of us bruised and alone Now we both will have nothing to hold Let
her know, hurl it in to her renegade heart
Let's see, When I Look at You
and the Reprise
of that are both really good, so is Storybook (really,
really good) and Only Love
is soooooooo good! I love She Was There,
Douglas Sills really is amazing! Yes, yes, I'm trying to end quickly,
Lullaby,
where it goes If
I die before I wake May I look upon the angels Standing by, come to take me home
is so sad! And You
are My Home is nice too, I hear it was
on the pop song charts or something. Oh yes, and The
Riddle, is soooooooo great, really, I
don't think I can stress this enough, so great!!! Douglas Sills and Terrence
Mann, well, I don't know who I would pick, they're both so great, not to mention
the song and the lyrics are really splendid. Yes, yes, I'm getting on with it!
And if any of this appeals to you at all you have to read
The Scarlet Pimpjolras
by
Cillabub
reading that was what made me like Scarlet Pimpernel in the first place!
Oh, and it's a good book!
That the best of our dreams fell apart And the dark of the morning grows cooooooooolllllllldddddd!!!!!!
Wow, amazing, I made Katie listen to that song like 20 times.
I want to see this! Terrence Mann was in the origninal show in 1991, but since I was
6 I never got to see it! I hope they bring it back soon, they were supposed to! I think that this is a
great musical because the songs are really good, the singing is great and it's a very cool plot. Not to mention the
fact that I now know more about presidential assassinations than anyone else in my American History class! Ah, if only
all of history was in musical form! I would be a genius!
