    Hadith Number 173: Concerning Bid’a Hasana & Sayyi’ah

Text Box: Jarir bin ‘Abdullah narrated: We were near the Messenger of Allah (Sallalaho Alyhi Wassalam) shortly after dawn when there came to him some people clad in woollen matted or covered with sleeveless blankets and with swords hanging down. Most of them belonged to the Mudar tribe. The face of the Prophet (Sallalaho Alyhi Wassalam) turned pale when he saw them dying of starvation. Then he went to his house and came back afterwards commanded Bilal to proclaim the Adhan. So he proclaimed it and they recited iqama and afterwards offered prayers. Then the Prophet (Sallalaho Alyhi Wassalam) delivered a sermon:

“O men! Fear your Lord who created you from a single being and from it created its mate and from them twain has spread abroad a multitude of men and women. Be mindful of your duty towards Allah in whom you claim (your rights) of one another and towards the wombs (that bore you) lo! Allah has been a watcher over you (14:1) and he recited the verse which is in the end of Sura Exile- O’ you who believe! observe you duty to Allah. And let every soul look to that which it sends on before for the morrow (59:19) Thereafter every man gave charity dinars, dirhams, cloth, measured wheat and dates till (he said) even to the extent of a portion of date. Then a man from the ansar came with a bag of money which was about to bend down his palm; nay, which completely lowered it down. Thereafter the people came successively (with alms) till I saw two heaps of food and cloths. I noticed that the face of the messenger (Sallalaho Alyhi Wassalam)’s face was shining like that of a bright moon. It was like a golden hue. Then the messenger (Sallalaho Alyhi Wassalam) said: Whosoever introduces a good practice in Islam, there is for him it’s reward and the reward of those who act upon it after him without aught being diminished from their rewards. And whosoever introduces an evil practice in Islam, will shoulder it’s responsibility and the responsibility of all those who act upon it, without diminishing in any way the burden (of the initiator)
