SOME BENEFITS OF RECITING TASMIYAH:

`BISMILLAH-IR-RAHMAN-IR-RAHIM'

The person who makes it a habit to recite the Tasmiyah in the beginning of every legitimate Allah grants him much more than he expects. Such a man rules over the hearts of other fellow-beings.   If the Tasmiyah is recited forty one times in the ear of a mad and insane person, it helps the person to recover from the insanity quickly. The recitation of the Tasmiyah fifty times guards against the cruelty of the ruler. If the Tasmiyah is written 21 times and that paper is put around the neck of the child will not get frightened in sleep. If a person writes the Tasmiyah 101 times and buries the paper farm or garden, it will enhance the productivity. If a person happens to be in great difficulty, he should sit with the Qur'an and complete the reading of the Qur'an by reciting only Bismallah. This r will help him get rid of that trouble very soon.

THE REWARD FOR RECITING TASMIYAH ONCE

The first Caliph, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (radi Allahu anho) narrated that there is a magnificent edict of Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) that an individual Muslim who recites the `Tasmiyah' once, Almighty Allah credits his record of deeds with ten thousand virtuous deeds, obliterates ten thousand of his sins and elevates his position by ten thousand grades. (Anis-ul-Waezeen).

Hazrat Mas'ud (radi Allahu anho) has narrated that the Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) that the person who recites the Tasmiyah once would be recompensed with four thousand goodnesses, remittance of four thousand of his sins and elevation of his position by four thousand grades for each letter of the Tasmiyah recited. (Nuzhatul-Majalis)

RECITING TASMIYAH ON COMMENCEMENT OF TRAVEL

It is stated in Tafseer-e-Naimi that an individual who recites ‘Bismillah’ and `Alhamdu-lillah' while riding an animal would be credited in the celestial records of his deeds with the recompense of one virtuous deed for each step the animal takes. It is also stated in Tafseer-e-Naimi that the person who recites 'Bismillah' and `Alhamdu-lillah' while getting into a boat would have countless goodnesses that would be entered into his celestial record of deeds as long as he keeps riding the boat. Here it is presumed that one would get the same reward for reciting the above on getting onto the modern modes of transport.

RECITING TASMIYAH BEFORE EATING AND AT OTHER INSTANCES

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anho) said that once the Satan assigned to a Muslim and the one assigned to a disbeliever met together. The Satan of the infidel was pretty fat, well dressed and his head besmeared with mustered oil while the Satan of the Muslim was lean, with dishevelled hair on his head and no clothes on his body. The Satan assigned to the infidel asked the Satan assigned to the Muslim as to his condition. He replied, "I am assigned to such a pious man who recites ‘Bismillah’ while starting to take his meals. Therefore, I have to remain hungry. Also when he consumes any drinks, he starts drinking by reciting `Bismillah'. Due to this reason I have to remain thirsty. While besmearing his head with oil, he carries out recital of `Bismillah' and due to that I have my hair dishevelled. At the time of putting on his clothes too he recites `Bismillah' and as consequence to that I remain nude. The Satan of the infidel said that he is assigned to such a person who does not recite `Bismillah' before doing anything and, therefore, shares his eating, drinking and all other activities. (Mawahibul-la-Dunniya)

Hazrat Jabir (radi Allahu anho) narrated that Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) stated that if anyone does not say `Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim', while taking food, the Devil says to his followers that they have got food without any trouble.

In another Hadith narrated by Hazrat Huzaifa bin Yaman (radi Allahu anho) Prophet Mohammad (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) said that the food, on which the name of Allah is not recited, is easily devoured by the devil. (Muslim Sharif).

Hazrat Ayesha (radi Allahu anha) narrated that once the Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) was dining with the Companions. A villager came and also joined in and in two morsels finished all the food.

On seeing this, the Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) said that if the villager joined in by saying

‘Bismillah’, the food would have sufficed for all of them. (Abu Daud)
