                            What is it?
*****************************************************************

The Scribe is a program to support everyone who's playing online
Bloodbowl. It's made to help you with the updating the HTML file
containing your teamsheet.

Yes, there is a HTML Team Editor by Mike Howard and i suggest
that you keep it for creating your team files. But the problem
with this program is that it recreates all the HTML code every-
time you use it and thus deletes any nonstandard HTML code you
added to your teamsheet (like Email adress, differing layout,
etc.).

The Scribe does not do that. The Scribe opens an existing team
file and changes only the content of the team sheet (everything
thats inbetween those <TD ...> and </TD> tags). The HTML frame-
work remains untouched.

The Scribe adds another feature that help you to update your
team faster than before. It does all the calculations for you
(player SPP total, cost of team extras (like RRs, FF, etc.),
total cost of team and team rating).

                         How do i use it?
*****************************************************************

If you use the Halfling Scribe for the first time it asks you to
set some preferences. I recommend that you only set the paths and
fonts and otherwise default settings to start with. You can
change everything later.

First, you got to have an existing file containing a teamsheet.
(best created with Mike's Team Editor). To open it click on
File/Open. If you get any error message your teamfile is non-
standard ... see below.

You can now edit the team data by clicking on the table cells
containing it. Rightclicking on numbers in the player statistics,
the team extras (RRs, FF, etc.) or the treasury increases those
bnumbers by 1 or 1000. If you want to decease a number hold shift
key while rightclicking. If u want a larger increment, hold CTRL
key while rightclicking.

If Options/Auto_Calculate is checked then all calculations will
be made automatically. If it's unchecked u can calculate
manually by clicking on Options/Calculate_Now.

If you use HTML-tags within the cells (like <font ...>, <b>,
<small>, etc.), u can display them by activating Layout/Show_
HTML-Tags_In_Cells. I suggest displaying them when making major
changes to your teamsheet, as otherwise some of the tags within
the cell text might disapear (you always get a message when this
happens). Normal update work like adding skills, player stats/SPP
and changing FF, RRs, etc. will never result in disapearing tags,
so you don't have to be to careful.

You can change between Teamsheet View (default) and HTML View by
selecting in the View Menu. Please note that the display is NOT
"What you see is what you get". So all settings you make for
fonts or column widths are for DISPLAY only. If you want to see
how your teamsheet looks like in your favorite web browser use
View/External_Browser.

Layout/Use_&NBSP_In_Emtpy_Cells will put an nonbreaking space
(&nbsp) in every empty table cell which results in the boarders
of this cell being drawn by the webbrowsers other than those of
an really empty table cell (try it out if you don't get what i'm
talking about).

Layout/Show_Zero_Values is for those of you that like to get a
"0" as a calculation result instead of an emtpy cell. Looks quite
ugly IMO, but anyway.

If you always want to keep the whole team sheet in view, Options/
Autosize_Columns and Options/Autosize_Window might help you. You
set your own column widths by unchecking Autosize_Columns and
placing the mouse cursor between two cells to resize the left one
(like in Excel). If you want to keep the column widths for the
future click on Options/Save_Column_Widths.

Saving your team file by File/Save or File/SaveAs will make a
savety copy of your old file (as *.SAV) in case you overwrite an
old file.

This should be about it ... just play around a bit ... it's really
easy.

*****************************************************************
Why doesn't it work for me?
*****************************************************************

In case you got an error message opening your teamsheet there
might be two reasons:

Your file is too large (>32k). This limitation results from the
16bit language i had to use (sorry, i only have an old delphi
1.0 for development). File size of >32k normally is caused by
long match reports. I'd suggest to keep them in an extra file,
which also helps to reduce download times. If yo can't do it,
try to throw out some HTML-code.

The other reason could be that your teamsheet is nonstandard and
the scribe couldn't detect some parts of it. You can solve this
problem telling the scribe the text you use to despribe the
nondetected data on the detection page of the preferences dialog.

If you have further problems try to ask me when i'm on IRC or
send me a EMail (pls attach team file you have problems with).

*****************************************************************
                           What's next?
*****************************************************************

Please note that the Scribe has still beta status and will
possibly never make it to Version 1.0. This should not keep you
from using it. My intentition is that Version 1.0 could replace
Mike Howard's HTML Team Editor.

This would be a step into actually changing HTML code, which is
pretty difficult if you don't rebuild the code anytime you use
the program. If i find enough time, i'll add this feature some
day.

This will include building new files from different templates,
adding HTML code (for EMail adress/total row/value column/etc.),
changing colors, fonts, alignments and many more.
