Morning Dew
G. Higgins

Morning sun
For it slanted from the east
Illuminating
A single leaf alone
On the branch of a sapling
The verdant green stark contrast
Dew collected
Near the stem
Refracts the light
And sparkles
Its volume increasing
As the sunlight warms it
Expanding until surface
Tension breaks
And it rolls along the center vein
To hover a moment at the tip
A long, sweet moment
Before
It plunges to the dust
To feed again the tree
