As you may or may not know, I've been working at
summer camps since 1984. And I've worked in Outdoor Education on and off since 1989. It's
funny, because I originally went to school at SUNY Geneseo, and I got a BA in Art Studio
and Graphic Design. ( I also have an AAS in Applied Science from SUNY Morrisville). Six
months after I graduated, I found myself applying for a position at an Outdoor Center as a
Naturalist. I really did not have a strong science background, but they taught me so much.
I grew up in a small town in Spencer, New York, which is near Ithaca, NY. I was the middle
child with three older sisters, two younger sisters and a younger brother. My three older
sisters live in in the far outreaches of the United States. One lives in Florida, another
in Alaska while the third lives in Newark Valley, NY. My two younger sisters and brother
still live in Spencer, NY. Growing up in a small, German / Finnish community ( and I was
mainly Portuguese ) and having a single mother was tough. But I had a great set of
friends, and a strong family, so I would like to think that growing up in that environment
was an asset , rather than a drawback!
I enjoy being
outdoors, hiking, mountain biking, and teaching children and adults about the world around
them. I like working on the computer as a hobby, and i seem to pick it up
quicky.
