| We are using a GUESTBOOK to do our Patrol scheduling. It was the only practical tool available through GeoCities. It is a little awkward - but it gets the job done. Please "View My GuestBook" first to see what shifts where coverage is already scheduled - Then Choose a Date / Time that is convenient for you. Then "Sign My GuestBook" to post your Patrol. |
| PATROL RECCOMENDATIONS: 1. Report ALL suspicious vehicles. Vehicle description and tag number. 2. Report ALL juveniles on bicycles or walking around Venice East after 11:00 pm. It is illegal for them to be on the streets after 11:00 - and are most likely buglarizing vehicles and homes. 3. Report ALL observed damage to private or common area property. 4. Arm yourself with a cell phone. If you feel the need to carry - bring your CCW Permit. 5. Do not confront or approach anyone - just call the Sarasota Sheriffs Department and they will respond and figure out what is going on. They have the training & equipment to handle it. |
| Dear Venice East Community Neighbor: Recently there has been a rash of crimes taking place in Venice East. Numerous car break-ins took place where residents have lost money, computers, guns and other belongings. On numerous occasions, the perpetrators attempted to gain access to the garage - and in one case got in! The homes were well lit - homeowners were all home- and nobody heard a thing - including the dogs. We need to put a STOP to this activity - immediately. Here are some tips to deter crime at your home and in our neighborhood: 1. Your dog is useless. He will never hear a thing. It is a false sense of security. 2. Keep your home and vehicles locked at all times - Vehicle windows CLOSED ALL THE WAY. 3. Keep the area around your home well lit. I have noticed several streets that are DARK!. 4. Install motion sensing -or- Dusk-To-Dawn lighting around your home. 5. Install alarm systems on your cars and in your home. 6. Report ALL suspicioius vehicles directly to the Sarasota Sheriffs - DIAL 316-1201 7. Report ALL juveniles walking or bicycling around our neighborhood after 11:00pm. It is illegal for them to be out that time of night - and may be in the process of burglarizing cars and homes. The Sheriffs Department directly told me to REPORT THEM ALL. Let the Sheriffs Deputy that responds to the call, figure out whether further action should be taken. 8. We need an OVERNIGHT PATROL. All you need is a vehicle & cell phone. Just drive around and call the Sarasota Sheriffs Department if you see suspicious vehicles, juveniles, or damage to property. Do not exit your vehicle - or confront anyone. Anybody can do it - Male/Female/Young/Old. Just DRIVE, SEE, and - DIAL 316-1201. This is strictly a resident volunteer program. No real formal organization is required. You can enter the TIMES & DATES when you want to patrol by using the GUESTBOOK above. The entire project is voluntary. This web site is for information, dialog, and patrol scheduling purposes only - and is restrited to residents of the Venice East Subdivision. Say you have some free time between midnight and 4:00am early Friday morning and don't want to duplicate somebody else's patrol. You look at the GUESTBOOK and see somebody else is already patrolling from 11:00pm to 1:00am. So you put an entry in for 1:00am - 3:00am. Now we have solid coverage from 11:00pm - 3:00am - and there was no formal contact required between anybody - and no organization got involved. The entry is just to tell others that you will be patrolling Venice East. You are always free to patrol on you own - whenever you wish - without ever entering anything in this web site. Even if you have 30 minutes - drive around a little and maybe you will spot something. It is a great way to get off the couch - have a cigarette - listen to a CD - and do a little community service - without any commitment or pressure.
