Modern Seagrave Fire Engines

Page 27: Oxnard, CA 1997

For the 1997 edition of the annual California Fire Instructors Workshop (CFIW) at San Jose, CA, the Seagrave booth featured this 1500-gpm pumper that was ready to be delivered to Oxnard, CA. It was the first year I accompanied my dad to this event, and that show is one of the reasons I started to like Seagrave so much. This pumper is Seagrave model T850CW, serial number T8836, with a factory manufacturing date of February 26, 1997, about 6 weeks before this photo. The Waterous centrifugal pump bears the date of October 14, 1996--so at four months to mount the pump on the chassis and build the body, this was practically "instant fire engine" compared to the two years that it typically requires most modern fire engine manufacturers to build a new pumper.
