Fire Engines
Fom the 1950s through the 1970s, the Fire Departments of Los Angeles City and Los Angeles County, CA, each amassed fleets of several hundred pumpers and ladder trucks that were locally built by Crown Firecoach. But with Crown's demise in the early 1980s, both fire departments switched allegiance to Seagrave in far-off Clintonville, WI. Here is Los Angeles City Engine 39, a Seagrave equipped with a 1500-GPM Waterous centrifugal pump, and bearing a factory date of July 25, 1984. (Michelle Klein-Hass photo).

Seen during the 1994 International Fire Buffs Association convention is Los Angeles City Engine 248, Seagrave serial number R79435. Seagrave factory date is September 1, 1984. Note the chrome wheels, typical of L.A. City fire engines. (Ed Hass photos).
