| The first event of the JSA's National Open Series (NOS) was held at the World Famous Lighthouse surfing beach at Plumb Point on the Port Royal road. The surf was 2' overhead and pumping. 19 men and 5 women registered for the event which determins jamaica's open male and female surfing champions.. The event attracted Jamaica's top surfers from Kingston St. Andrew and Portland. Luke Williams of Kingston fresh off his win at the last National Qualifier, pulled out all the stops and drew first blood in the 5 event series with an impressive display of commited surfing which put daylight between himself and the rest of the field. After dominating the earlier rounds, 04 defending national champ Icah Wilmot kept himself in the hunt with a an excellent repertoire of manoeuvres earning him second place. Young Shane Simmons of Boston Bay in Portland who is a member of the National Junior team finished third with his team mate Ackeam Phillips from Bull Bay a close fourth. Fifth and sixth went to Joel Lawrence and Inilek Wilmot both of Bull Bay. In the womens division 5 ladies signed up. Danielle O'Hayon (Kingston), Imani Wilmot (Bull Bay), Elim Beckford (Bull Bay), Esther Beckford (Bull Bay) and Angelina Rowe (Boston Bay). The ladies paddled out to much applause from the spectators on the beach. The overhead waves were very challenging for the girls and angelina retired from the heat early. Danielle however charged and opened up a large lead on the rest of the field with an impressive demonstration of commitment proving that surfing is not just for the guys and took first. Girls Junior Team member Imani also surfed well and secured second place ahead of her team mate Elim in third.
