If anyone asked me, when I was 6, what I was going to be when I grew up, I'd have said "fashion designer". My love for fashion was always there, strengthened by my mother, who was always knitting. I began at first, playing with her wool, recognising different textures and colours. As soon as I could read and understand pattern abreviations, I was knitting, scarves, legwarmers, clothes for my teddies....or just little sample sqaures. After beginning my 1st Diploma in Art and Design, discovering all aspects of art, I was dead set on becoming a fine artist, I enjoyed being able to explore colour and texture with very few boundries, but, because of this I was pressured into studying Textiles, of which now, I am thankful!

During my time in college I was surrounded by many influential artists, Cefyn Burgess, Peter Prendegast, Joy Frampton and Pam Hemmings (who was taught by John Allen), to name a few. Still preferring to paint than to knit, I took a great interest in printed textiles, that was, until I entered a Jaeger Knitwear Competition, in which, I came runner-up, out of the whole country, I didn't think that was too bad! But as I stood in awe at the Alexander Palace, (where Jaeger had a presentation stand) looking at my design, hanging with two of the winners, a new confindence was restored (particularly when a lady bought the pattern!). |

So, off I went to the big city, to study for a BSc (hons) in Knitwear Technology and Design at De Montfort University, Leicester. |
