| Part 96A *********** As Liz pulled up into the driveway, Max and Noah burst through the door, both of them greeting her on the walkway. "Momma!" Noah ran into her legs, scrambling up her body, wanting to be held. Liz fell back, laughing as she kissed him. "Hey, precious. I missed you sooo much." Noah twined his hands in her hair, smiling as he kissed the tip of her nose. "Mished you." He lay his head on her shoulder, feeling completely at peace that she was close by and that he was in her arms. Max finally made it down the porch steps, his eyes sparkling. He cupped the back of Lizs neck, placing a kiss on her warm lips. "Hey." "Hey." She ran her free hand down his arm, her eyes never leaving his. "I missed you too. You have no idea how lonely my shower was this morning." Max groaned, looking up into the sky. He looked back down at her, giving her a rueful smile. "It was probably as lonely as mine." Liz chuckled at his playfulness. She reached for his hand, but stopped when she saw that he was wearing the gold band on it. She fingered the ring, feeling the coolness of it against Maxs warm skin. "I thought.....I thought you said that you were gonna put off wearing this until- Max gave her a broad smile. "I said I didnt want my mom getting the wrong idea, and well, considering that she and my dad took the news pretty well, I didnt see the point in not wearing it. I mean, I proposed to you, and youre wearing my ring. You proposed to me, and I want to be able your ring. I want people to see this, and know that I belong to you and only you." A slow smile came to pass on Lizs lips, but as realization dawned on her, she grabbed Maxs arms. "They took the news pretty well? You told them already?" Max nodded slowly. "I hope youre not mad. I just, I wanted to be honest with them." "Im not mad, just surprised. I guess things are still taking a little while to sink in." She smiled, letting him lead her into the house. "Yeah, well Isabel and everyone are gonna be here in a little bit. Apparently they all spent the night at Marias, and well, I thought that we could tell them together." Liz giggled as an image of Maria popped into her head. "Max, honey. Breakfast is all ready. Your dad and I are gonna see if we can catch a little shut eye." Diane walked into the room, yawning as she did so. She looked up to see Liz, a smile breaking out on her face. She walked to her, throwing her arms around her. "Liz. Its nice to see you, dear." Phillip walked into the room, his lips curling into a smile. When Diane moved aside, he gave Liz a hug as well. "I think a congratulations is in order." Diane squeezed Lizs hand. "Welcome to the family, sweetheart." Liz just nodded, her throat to choked up to say anything. On her drive over here, she was a little on edge. A little scared, wondering what Maxs parents reaction would be to their recent engagement. But as they did every time, they surprised her with the amount of love they showered her with. "Thank you." A convoy of engines, were heard in the driveway. Diane and Phillip took that as their cue to leave. Max and Liz looked at each other, smiling as they braced themselves with announcing their news. *********** The front door opened loudly, accompanied with the heavy footsteps of six teenagers still dressed in their pjs. Isabel barely looked at her brother as she walked past them, plopping herself on the couch. "Hey, Liz." One by one, the rest of the group made their way into the house, each of them still partially dead to the world. Maria was the last to walk in, her hair still mussed from sleep. She walked into the living room, sitting on the floor with a dramatic sigh. She looked up at Max and Liz. "This had better be good. I mean you do realize that its....." She looked up at the clock, squinting to read the time. Her eyes refused to focus, so she gave up. "Yeah, well its too early." Isabel mumbled from her spot on the couch. "Yeah....and why is it that we all had to be here?" Max and Liz just smiled at each other, finding it amusing how each and everyone of their friends were definitely not morning people. Liz lifted her hand to brush the hair away from her face when a loud shriek came from Maria. Isabel sat up, wondering what the commotion was all about. She looked at Max and Liz, noting the way they stood so close together, like it was physically impossible for them to be apart. She watched Max pull Liz closer to his side. "Omigod!" Isabel jumped with Maria, both of the shrieking and giggling, forgetting that sleep was threatening to consume them only minutes ago. Kyle sat up, pulling Courtney with him. He turned a horrified look at Maria and Isabel bursting with excitement, then turned to everyone else. He pointed at Maria and Isabel. "Someone, turn them off!" Courtney laughed, her eyes flying to Liz and Max. A small gasp made its way past her lips as she too noticed the rings that the two of them were sporting. Maria and Isabel turned to her, pulling her up with them. The three of them danced their way to Liz, pulling her and Noah away from Max. They pulled her into the kitchen, bombarding her with questions, accompanied with the occasional giggle of excitement. The other three guys sat up groggily, still unsure of what happened. Michael scratched his head. "What the heck was that?" Alex shrugged his shoulders, watching curiously as the girls fawned over Liz. "I dont know. It must be woman intuition or something, because that totally flew over me head." Kyle held his hands to his head, trying to keep it from pounding. "I dont know how your ears arent still ringing from that." Alex chuckled, turning his gaze to Max. "Do you have any idea what that was about?" Max walked into the room, laughing. "Sorta." Kyle looked at Max then finally noticed the dopey grin on his face. He watched as Max sat down. He flinched when the sunlight flickered across the ring on Maxs finger. He didnt think anything of it, until it flickered again, the gold color flashing in his eyes. Kyle jumped up, pointing at Max, his eyes wide. "Holy cow, you guys got hitched!" Part 96B ************ Max fell back, laughing in his chair at the stunned look on his friends faces. He didnt mean to laugh, but Kyles outcry was just too funny. He hadnt even expected them to pick up on the ring, but now that they had, he had a little explaining to do. Alex frowned, not really sure if he was happy that Max and Liz tied the knot, or upset that he wasnt invited. Either way, he wanted an explanation. Max wiped the tears from his eyes, holding onto his stomach as he attempted to speak. Liz and I didnt get married last night. I know how you guys can think that, he held up the ring on his hand, letting his friends see it. But, Liz proposed and well I wanted to wear the ring, just like shes wearing the ring I gave her. We couldnt even think about getting married without having all of you there. Alex smiled, glad that they hadnt eloped. He just couldnt imagine not being there when Liz walked down the aisle. Michael leaned his elbows on his knees, looking at Max. Wait, let me get this straight. You and Liz proposed to each other last night? Max nodded, laughing when Michael shook his head with a smile. Trust the two of you to propose at the same time. ************ Liz sat Noah on the counter as Maria and Isabels voices continued non stop. Liz placed her hands around Noahs cheeks, placing a kiss on them. His eyes flew from Maria to Isabel, watching curiously as they talked up a storm. You guys think you could quiet down a second? I feel like Im watching a ping pong match. I have no idea who Im gonna listen to first, she chuckled. Both Isabel and Maria blushed at the way they had gotten so carried away. Sorry. Each girl took turns giving Liz a hug, whispering their congratulations. Liz smiled, happy that her friends were just as excited about the news as she was. So, first things first. Whens the big day? Liz laughed. Maria, we just got engaged last night. We havent gotten that far yet. Maria gave her a wicked grin. So how far did you guys get last night? MARIA! Liz turned a bright crimson, completely and utterly embarrassed. Maria gave a hearty laugh, stumbling back a little bit. Relax hun. That isnt what I meant. I was talking about the wedding plans. She shook her head at Liz, in mock disappointment. You need to get your mind out of the gutter. The girls laughed some more, as Liz covered her face. Um, yeah, well...Im not really sure. We havent had a chance to discuss any of it yet. Well, I suggest you get Maxs cutie patootie behind in here so we can plan. The sound of a male voice clearing his throat from the doorway caught the attention of the girls. Michael had his eyebrow raised, his arms crossed against his chest as he looked at Maria. What was that about Maxs behind? It was Marias turn to blush as Michael teased her. I thought I was the only one with a cutie patootie behind? Maria flushed some more, walking to Michael, slapping him in the chest. Enough of that. We need to get a move on with the wedding plans. Isabel nodded. Exactly. Wouldnt it be great if you guys had the wedding right after graduation? She turned bright eyes towards Liz. Youd make a beautiful June bride. Alex walked into the kitchen, shaking his head. Guys. Im thinking Max and Liz would like a say in their own wedding. Dont you? Of course, but it would help if my brother was actually in the same room.....MAX! Max covered his ears, walking towards Liz, placing his arm around her waist. Iz. You dont have to yell. Im right here. Oh, right. So, whats the plan? Max looked to Liz who only shrugged her shoulders. They both laughed, turning back towards their friends. There is no plan.....yet. Isabel threw her hands up in the air. Youre absolutely hopeless, Max. She reached for Marias hand, leading her towards the table with Courtney. We have a crisis here. Maria eyed the couple, hoping to get a little help. Have you guys even thought of a possible date? Well, I...I kinda like the idea of an early wedding. June sounds good, right after graduation...I mean, whatever Liz wants. He turned hopeful eyes on her, hoping that she would agree to a June wedding. Liz grinned at him. June sounds good. Maria clapped her hands together. June it is then. As quickly as she turned her head, panic rose. Omigod! We only have like three weeks before graduation. She jumped from her seat, pulling Liz towards the door. You dont even have a dress yet.....Where are you gonna have the wedding?....Theres soo much to do. Michael grabbed Marias arm, stopping her from running out the door with Liz as her captive. Hold it right there, blondie. Where do you think, youre going? Maria rolled her eyes at him, as if he should know where it was that she intended to drag Liz. Were gonna look for a wedding dress, silly. I hate to break it to you, sis, but the mall doesnt open till another couple of hours. How about we all get something to eat first, then you can do whatever girly things it is that you girls do? Kyle had made it into the kitchen, taking a seat beside Courtney. Max had walked up to Maria, taking Liz back into his arms. Kyles right. Why dont we have breakfast first, then you Isabel, Courtney and Liz can go to the mall and look for dresses and stuff. I have to put in a couple of hours at the UFO Center later, so you can have Liz to yourselves. He placed a light kiss on Lizs shoulder, pulling her towards the table. But for right now, shes mine. Maria walked back into the kitchen, accepting defeat. Michael was the last to sit at table. He stopped by the counter, taking Noah into his arms. Hey, little guy. How you doin? Noah shook his head at Michael, looking at him seriously. Am not little. Am a big boy. Michael laughed, handing Noah to Max and Liz. You got me there, pal. ************* Breakfast went on without a hitch, with the group laughing and talking about the prom. Max had refused to let Liz out of his sight until the last possible minute. Thats why they were standing in front of the Jetta, with Max holding onto Liz, kissing her as if there was no tomorrow. Maria stuck her head out of the window, tapping on the hood of the car. Lets go Romeo. I promise Ill bring her back in one piece. Liz ran her fingers through Maxs hair, whispering in his ear. Ill stop by the UFO Center when were done. Ill bring you some dinner. Max smiled, not able to stop from touching her. Ok. Ill see you later. He opened the door, helping her in. He waved goodbye as he watched the girls drive off in one car, and the guys drive off in Alexs rabbit. Maria had somehow baited them in going to the mall with them. Max sighed, shoving his hands into his pockets. He couldnt wait until June. Being apart from Liz for just a little while was driving him insane. June definitely couldnt come soon enough. Part 96C Rated: NC-17 ********* Max walked around the back office, shifting files into boxes. He had been at it for the last three hours. Brody had told him to get rid of the old files to make room for the new files that his new business partner was bringing. Brody had sold half of the UFO Center to some guy named Milton, who apparently was as big a UFO nut as Brody. Max shook his head, grabbing another box to seal away some of the more outdated files. He didnt even miss a beat when he heard someone knocking on the door. Im almost done, Brody. I just have to get this box sealed, and moved upstairs to storage and Ill be done. A womans laughter echoed through the small room, causing Maxs head to snap up. Thats good to know. Liz. When did you get back? He glanced at the clock, calculating when it was that he last saw her. She walked into the room, closing the door behind her. She offered him a take out box and a plastic cup filled with cherry coke. About an hour ago. She jumped onto the table, making herself comfortable as she watched Max devour the food she had brought him with gusto. He smiled at her, wiping at his mouth with a napkin. So, howd shopping go? Liz laughed, swinging her legs as they dangled from the table. It didnt. We drove to Marias so everyone could get ready, and that itself took like three hours. Then we got stuck in traffic, and by the time we got to the mall, Michael, Alex and Kyle wanted to head to the food court. Maria didnt want to let them out of her sight, thinking that they might try to make a run for it, so we spent like an hour trying to figure out what we wanted for lunch, and then another hour eating. Max laughed, trying to picture it all in his mind. So, what did you guys get done today? Other than stuffing ourselves with greasy mall food, Id have to say, nothing. Max gave her a sympathetic smile, his hand landing on her knee, giving it a soft squeeze. Im sorry you guys didnt get anything done. Liz shrugged her shoulders. I think I like it better this way. As much as I love Maria and Isabel, I was kinda hoping youd be there with me to make all of the decisions. She let out a heavy sigh. And Ive always imagined having my mom and my grandma being there with me to choose my gown. And I would really love it if your mom could be there too. Max smiled, running his hand down her calve to sooth her. Well, maybe its fates way of telling us that today just wasnt the day to do that stuff? Liz nodded in agreement. Speaking of, when do you plan on telling your mom and dad about our engagement? Liz looked thoughtful for a moment, as she tried to find what to say. Well, Ive been dying to tell them, but this isnt something I dont want to tell them over the phone. My dads gonna wrap up the part time job he took, so he and mom are gonna be back by next week. Grandma Claudia says shes probably gonna stay with us till graduation, so I guess thats like killing two birds with one stone. Max took a sip of his soda, his head bobbing in response. He grabbed the plastic containers, dropping them into the nearest waste basket. Well, if youd like me to talk to them with you, you know I will. Liz smiled, throwing her arms around his neck. I know you would, but just like you talked to your parents about this, I need to do this with my parents, alone. I hope you understand. I do, but I just had to say it. Liz grinned, letting her hand flutter against the hair on his nape. She loved how it curled towards the ends, making her want to run her fingers through it. I know you did. She brushed her lips against his, murmuring softly. I missed you today. He gripped her hips, helping her stand on her tip toes so that they were at eye level. I missed you too. So much. His lips captured hers again, wanting to feel her warmth against him. His hands, ran slowly up her sides, the tips of his fingers teasing the sides of her breasts. Her head fell back, her teeth sinking into the soft flesh of her bottom lip to keep from moaning out loud. They pulled apart at the sound of insistent knocking on the other side of the door. Evans! Im heading out. Im meeting Milton at the airport first thing tomorrow, so Im gonna leave you to lock up by yourself. Max held his finger over Lizs lips, smiling as he spoke. No problem, Brody. Ill see you and Milton tomorrow. Night, Evans! Make sure you fix the sign over the autopsy display before you leave. It seems about ready to fall. Wouldnt want to have a lawsuit on my hands. Ill get right to it, when I finish up in here. Thanks. Max waited until he heard the click of the back door closing before he let go of Liz. Help me with this, and Ill walk you home? Liz nodded, walking out of his embrace to help pick up some of the mess. Sure. Only if you promise youll stay for a little bit before you leave me alone in my big lonely bed. She stuck out her bottom lip, batting her long eyelashes at him. He threw a file at her, smirking. Like there was any doubt. The two of them began working to clear out most of the back office, making some small talk. So, what were you doing while we spent a hellish day at the mall? Max grunted, lifting a box onto the dolly. Not much. Noah and I played with his toys for a little bit, then I came down here to work my shift. I was gonna go home early, but Brody sprung this project on me. Liz nodded her understanding, the two of them working in companiable silence till they were done. *********** After 45 minutes of shifting files, both of them breathed a sigh of relief. Liz reached for the door knob, but Max grabbed her wrist, twisting her till she was facing him. Not so fast. I wanna finish what we started. He gave her a wicked grin, his hand tipping her chin for a languid kiss. Liz grabbed onto his work vest, clinging to it for dear life. Mmm... The two of them stumbled backwards, stopping when the back of Lizs thighs hit the table. Max grabbed her by the waist, depositing her onto the table. Just as he had in his day dream from a while back, he eased her legs apart, coming to stand in between her spread legs. He grabbed her tush, pulling her forward so that he was tucked snugly in between her thighs. Liz gasped, her breaths turning into pants. She watched as Max reached out to tangle his hands in her hair, his lips meeting hers in a kiss. His tongue teased her lips open, searching the deepest recesses of her mouth. His hands squeezed her thighs, working up until he reached behind, his hands landing on her backside. With a will of their own, his hips thrust forward, as his hands helped Liz do the same. The breathy moans that escaped her lips, thrilled him, making him want more. He pulled his lips away from hers, making a wet trail down her neck. You have no idea how many times Ive imagined you like this. Liz let her head fall back, letting Max suckle the delicate skin on her neck. Her hands had dipped into his shirt, massaging the taut muscles on his back. The sound of his voice excited her, making her ache for desire. Really?....H-here?.....In the office?.... Max chuckled, his hands returning to her thighs. He let them glide up and under her skirt, kneading the softness of her skin. Not just here. The kitchen counter....the counter at the crashdown....our lab table..... His voice trailed off, as his lips once again sought hers out. Their kisses were sloppy, their hands groping as they continued. Liz pushed on his chest a little, without releasing him from the confines of her legs. She smiled at him, her brown eyes twinkling in the dim fluorescent light hanging above them. So you uh....you have a thing for tables and counters? Maxs flushed skin deepened in color, as he nodded his head slowly. He cupped her face, bringing her face close to his so he could whisper in her ear. Well, I think about making love to you everywhere, but uh....the tables and counter thing.....I havent been able to get it off my mind ever since we were baking Noahs birthday cake. Lizs sharp intake of breath, confirmed that she remembered. Thats.....thats what your daydream was? Max nodded against her cheek, his hands never ceasing their caress of her thighs. Uh huh. Liz bit back a devilish grin as she pulled off Maxs work vest. She grabbed the edge of his polo, throwing it behind her. Guess its time to make that dream a reality. She reached for his zipper, her eager hand sticking through the hole. She didnt care that she the metal teeth was grating against her skin, all she wanted was to feel that part of him that was throbbing between her legs. Max groaned, his head falling back as Lizs little hand gripped him. Liz....we....we.....dont....have.. She tugged on his chin, kissing his lips with a bruising force that left room for no argument. Max....I want you....and I want you now. Even as he spoke, his head lolled backwards, enjoying every minute of Lizs sweet torture. Are...you...sure? Liz yanked her hand from his jeans, her hands quickly undoing the button. She shoved his pants and boxers down in one fluid motion, leaving his erection jutting forward against his belly. The corners of her lips turned up, her eyes trained on his golden skin. She sat up, yanking her dress over her head. She reached behind her, unsnapping the clasp of her bra. Her eyes trailed hotly up his body, finally landing on his midnight eyes that were usually amber in color. You see, Max. You left me lonely in my shower this morning, so I plan to collect. She reached for her purse on the other side of the table, getting a condom out. She ripped it open, taking the latex out with care. Before her hands could touch him, he stopped her. Wait. He waited until she met his eyes again, wanting to be sure that she wasnt just doing this just because he wanted it. Her hand cupped his jaw. I want this too.....so bad... Max let his hand, drift to her underwear, his fingers dancing lightly over her crotch. But what about the pain? She pulled his hand up, placing a kiss on his palm. Im still a little sore, but its nothing bad. It kinda feels like that first time you uh... His head bobbed against her hand, understanding what she was saying. He stepped back a little, letting her work the latex down his rigid form. As she did so, he grabbed the edges of her panties, slinking them down her creamy thighs. For a split second, he admired her nakedness, a wave of possession overcoming him. To think that she belonged to him, and no other man would be able to touch her this way, or watch her throw her head back in ecstasy, boiled his blood to a heightened level. Unable to wait for him to make the next move, Liz grabbed his manhood, placing him at her opening. Before he had a chance to ask her one last time if she was sure, she grabbed his hips, thrusting him deep inside her. Their moans coincided at the feel of their joining. Oh God! Liz wrapped her legs around his waist, her head falling back as Maxs mouth latched onto her heaving breasts. Her hand held his head in place, as her other hand landed on his hip, urging him to go faster. Their lips met in another heated kiss, their tongues mimicking the pumping action of their lower bodies. With heavy pants, Liz gripped the small of his back, pushing him as deeply as he could go. A guttural moan passed his lips as he continued to pump, faster and faster. He could feel the first tremors of her release, making him work that much faster. With an animalist growl, he grabbed her waist, thrusting inside her for all he was worth. He bit his lip, holding on till he was sure that she was ready. He didnt want to go over the edge without her. He squeezed a hand in between their pumping bodies, his thumb searching for her special bundle of nerves. Making a few tight circles, Lizs head fell forward on his shoulder, her voice breathless. Max....hold me. His arms wrapped around her slick form, as her walls clamped down around him, sending them both to see white flashes of light behind their eyes, their hips still moving in time with each other. When their bodies stilled, Liz placed an amorous kiss on his neck. I like this method of baking cake, better.... she finished with a mischievous smile. Part 97 ***************** Liz walked through the halls of West Roswell with an air of confidence, almost as if there was an extra skip in her step. The smile she wore on her face was undeniable. The swing in her hips tantalizing. The rock on her finger shimmered in the fluorescent lights hanging above her. Her classmates watched, whispering behind notebooks. Is that Liz Parker? Wow! Check out Liz Parker! Is that a ring on her finger? Liz had to bite back the grin from her lips. She rounded the corner, walking towards her locker. *********** Pam Troy stood with her little minions, talking about how prom had been. Vickie Delanie ran down the corridor, screeching to a halt. Omigod! You guys wont believe what I just heard. Pam rolled her eyes, taking a nail file from her purse. We already heard about Paulie getting drunk and throwing up all over Mr. Singer. Its old news. Vickie grinned, shaking her head. Nope. This is better than that. Way better. Pam flipped her hair over her shoulder. Well, what is it? I dont have all day. Vickie stuck her tongue out at Pam when she wasnt looking. Well, I just heard that Liz Parker and Max Evans eloped after prom. Supposedly, they went to Vegas and got married at the Elvis chapel. She smirked when she saw Pams jaw fall to the floor. Pam began sputtering, trying to find a way to disprove what Vickie had just said. Whatever. Thats just a load of crap. I dont believe it. Unless shes wearing a ring on her finger, then everything is just hearsay. Liz Parker would never be able to land a guy like Max. Its only a matter of time before he gets bored with her. She began filing her nails, muttering to herself, hoping to convince herself. Stacy spoke up, her voice sounding a little timid. I dont know about that. I mean they have been going together since the beginning of the school year. And besides, Max hasnt laid eyes on anyone but Liz. Even he didnt fall for you. The other girls snickered as Pams face flared with a crimson red. Max is just playing hard to get. Hes a bad boy at heart. Hes pretending to tone down his image by being with little miss scientist. I mean hes gonna be looking to be getting some, and Im pretty sure that that prude of a girl isnt putting out. When Max decides he wants to be with a real woman, he knows where to find me. She smiled, her teeth glistening. Vickie rolled her eyes. I hate to break it to you, Pam but I just dont think Max is interested. Besides, I saw Liz with my own eyes and she was sporting a diamond on her finger. And I talked to Andrea who has Max in her first period English Lit, and apparently, he was sporting a wedding band on his left hand. Vickie raised an eyebrow at Pam, her lip curling into an almost evil smile. So I dont see how all of this info is just hearsay. Pam huffed. I dont care what Andrea says. Who died and made her the school gossiper? And besides, Liz wearing a ring on her finger means nothing. For all you know, she could have gotten that ring from a gumball machine. I mean she is desperate after all. I mean how pathetic can one girl get? Spreading rumors about herself to get attention. Pam gathered her things together. I think its time to put Liz Parker in her place. She walked purposefully down the hall, heading towards Lizs locker. Liz had her head buried in her locker, unaware that Pam and her friends had circled her. Hi, Liz. Pam spoke in a fake sugary sweet voice that would make anyones skin crawl. Liz closed her locker, turning around to face Pam. She was in too good of a mood to let Pam ruin her day. Whatever Pam had come to say, she wouldnt let it get to her. Pam frowned, making a pouty face. Whats the matter, Lizzie? Not going to say hi? Liz glared at her. What do you want, Pam? Pam grinned, never letting it reach her eyes. Her eyes burned with an animosity that boiled deep. She reached for Lizs left hand, turning it an angle. Oh, what a pretty ring. Whered you get it? The gumball machine? She laughed a mechanical laughter, causing the other girls around her to follow in her footsteps. Just as it happened in the movies, the knight in shining armor came to save his princess. Well in this case, Max towered behind Pam, pushing her aside. He glared at her, taking Lizs hand in his. He smiled at Liz, placing a kiss on her ring finger. He turned back to Pam while he put his arm around Liz. If you must know, I gave it to her. Pam was stunned speechless. She had never anticipated Max walking in and ruining her moment of glory. Max grinned a feral grin. You like it? He began placing a kiss on Lizs temple, making his way down her face. Stacy spoke up. We heard that you guys eloped in Vegas. Max chuckled, his kisses descending down the column of Lizs neck. You heard right. He held up his left hand, the gold wedding band glowing against his bronzed skin. Max pulled Lizs chin up, his lips fusing with hers. The small whimper of surprise coming from her lips made him smile. His hands drifted down her sides, coming to stop at her waist. He pulled her body against his, making the other girls uncomfortable being around them. Pam was the only one left, still staring, dumbstruck. Max looked up at her, as he continued to ravish Liz against her locker. What? Huh? Max smirked. I hate to break it to you Pam, but Im not really into voyeurism. You think you could take your gawking somewhere else and give me and my wife some privacy? Pam felt her cheeks flush. She ran down the hall and out the doors, not looking back. Max returned to kissing Liz, his hands dancing dangerous close to the edge of her skirt. Shes gone. Liz opened her eyes, returning to herself. She saw the compromising position she and Max were in, causing her to blush. She pushed him out of the way, trying to give him an admonishing look, but failed. Instead, she smiled, shaking her head at him. You do realize that you are a very bad boy, right? Max gave her a half smile, grabbing her hand. Yeah, well Pam deserved that. Shes had that one coming. They walked through the double doors, into the quad to meet their friends for lunch. Liz giggled, laying her head on his shoulder. Well after that stunt, everyone at school is definitely going to think that we eloped. Max stopped walking, looking down at her. Would that be so bad?.....You know, if people thought that we were already married? Liz felt her heart clutching in her chest at the vulnerability in his voice. She cupped his cheek, placing a kiss on his lips. No, it wouldnt. They exchanged smiles, walking towards their table. Together they sat down, refusing to lose contact. Alex was the last to walk to the table, a rather confused look on his face. Today has got to be the weirdest day. Michael looked up from the sandwich that he was inhaling. Why? Alex pointed in the direction of the school. Well, since first period, Ive heard rather elaborate stories about why Max and Liz are both wearing their rings. Maria almost choked on her food. Oh, my favorite one is the one where they stole some guys Harley, took it for a joy ride, wearing leather might I add, and then heading down to Vegas to get married. Kyle laughed. I didnt hear that one. I liked the one with the Elvis chapel. All of the friends laughed heartily with Max and Liz joining in at the ridiculous stories that were running amuck the school. Alex held his stomach, trying hard to keep the milk from coming out of his nose. This one is my favorite. I heard it on my way out here. Apparently, Max grabbed Liz and had his way with her at her locker. That has got to be the best one. When Max and Liz didnt laugh, instead holding their flushed cheeks down, their friends turned curious eyes towards them. Liz? Maria raised her eyebrow, waiting to hear something. When Liz looked up, her mouth moved but words didnt escape. Maria held her hand to her mouth. I cannot believe you two! There is an eraser room, you know, she finished jokingly. Max and Liz blushed some more, the pinkish tint in their cheeks making their friends laugh. We definitely need to get you guys hitched soon. Part 98 ********** Lizzie? Were home! Liz looked up from her scattered notebooks, a grin spreading across her lips as she heard her mothers voice floating from the doorway. Dropping her pencil, she ran down the hall, jumping into her mothers arms. Mom! Liz! Nancy rest her cheek against Lizs shoulder as the two of them hugged. She had missed this. She had missed her daughter. Got another one of those for me? Jeff dropped his bags, holding his arms open to Liz. Dad! She threw herself in his arms, her eyes closing with happiness as she realized that her parents were back home. The two of them separated as Claudia walked into the room, stepping up to give Liz a hug. Honey bear, we missed you. I missed you guys too. Im so happy that you guys are back home, theres so much Ive been dying to tell you. Nancy smiled, brushing away a tendril of stray hair away from her face. Thats great sweetie. Why dont you give us a few minutes to unpack and get your grandma settled, then you can tell us all about prom and everything else that weve missed while we were gone. Liz practically skipped into the kitchen, her happiness unable to be contained. Ok, Ill get dinner started. ************* By the time that the adults had unpacked and settled in, Liz had dinner started, waiting for the food to finish cooking. She had taken a seat at the dinner table, quietly twiddling her thumbs. Jeff, Nancy, and Claudia made their way into the kitchen, each of them positioning themselves around the table. Claudia was the first to speak, her excitement mirroring that of Lizs. First things first, honey bear. How was prom? A dreamy smile plastered itself on Lizs lips as she remembered the wonderful night. Well, Id have to say that it was the most magical night of my life. All of us met up at Chez Pierre for dinner, and then we went to the Hilton and danced all night. Claudia grinned, reaching over to take Lizs hand in hers. Im so glad that it was a night to remember for you. I remember my own prom like it was yesterday. Thats the night your grandpa proposed to me. Her fingers absently ran across the back of Lizs hand, brushing softly against the rock on her finger. Liz paled a little, giving her a tight smile. Really? You never told me that you and grandpa got engaged then. Claudias eyes lit up as she went back in time, recalling the night of her own prom. Well, it was officially when he asked me to marry him. But he didnt have money for a ring, so all I had was his word. We didnt tell anyone that we had agreed to marry each other until three months later. Jeffrey went and talked to my father, asking him for my hand in marriage, but my father wouldnt allow it. He didnt think that Jeffrey was good enough for me. So...how did you and grandpa get together if your father didnt approve? Claudia grinned, a mischievous light burning behind her eyes. We eloped. Simple as that. Liz sat silently, taking this information in. She had never heard that story before. The stories that her grandmother always shared were the ones where she and her husband had fallen in love. How they had realized that they were soul mates, and that no matter what anybody said or did, their love was much stronger because they believed in each other. Because they simply loved each other, and that was enough. Lizzie, is something wrong? Youve been awfully quiet. Liz nodded, trying to find the courage to announce her engagement to her parents and her grandmother. She had pictured this conversation in her minds eye, so many times. But now that it was actually here, she couldnt help but feel the anxiousness build in the pit of her stomach, her palms sweating as the nervousness sank in. An image of Max and Noah flashed into her mind, making her smile. She could do this, because it was all for the three of them. Everything they had to get through to be together would be worth in the end, because love like they shared was what grandma Claudia had with grandpa Jeffrey. It was love between soul mates, and like grandma Claudia always said, They probably arent a soul mate if it isnt complicated. And the situation they were in was definitely complicated. Finding the strength deep in her heart, Liz found her voice to speak. I have some news that Ive been meaning to share with the three of you since prom, but its kind of been left hanging because I wanted to tell you guys this in person. Jeff smiled, encouraging Liz to continue. Whats your news honey? Liz swallowed past the lump in her throat, taking a deep breath. Well, I guess theres really no easy way to say it, so Ill just come out and say it. Max and I got engaged after prom, and weve decided to have the wedding in June, right after graduation. Jeff sat back in his chair as if someone had kicked the wind out of him. Huh? He wasnt really sure if he had heard her correctly. Liz held up her left hand, the diamond on her finger sparking in the light. Oh. Nancy shook her head as if to clear it, but it just didnt seem to be working. How was she supposed to respond to that? Her baby girl had just told her that she was getting married. It wasnt that she was unhappy, more a little concerned that Liz had no idea what she was getting herself into. That maybe she had been caught up in the moment and hadnt had a chance to think things through. She had realized from the night they had all spent at Claudias, that Max and Liz were probably going to get married eventually. But not so soon. They were barely out of high school, and they were taking on a huge responsibility that they might be too young to deal with. Are you sure thats such a good idea? Liz felt tears prick her eyes. As much as a part of her wanted to get defensive and get angry, she had learned that it would never accomplish anything. She knew that had the roles been reversed, and that she and Max had to deal with Noah wanting to get married young, she knew that she probably wouldnt want him to, if she just keep him a little boy for just a while longer. But she knew that it wouldnt work in that situation, and it wasnt going to work here either. Liz nodded, her brown her swishing across her shoulders. I do. Ive been waiting all my life for Max, and now that hes here, I dont want to wait another minute. Jeff finally found his voice. If what you say is true, which Im sure it is, why the rush? You and Max are still so young. You have the rest of your lives to tie the knot. Why not wait? Whats a couple more years? A couple of more years is like waiting a lifetime. Waiting is just putting the inevitable on hold, and I cant do that anymore.....I dont want to. But why so soon? Nancy began wringing her hands, worry etched in her brows. Max and I are going away to college this fall. Hes decided to go to ACC, while I go to UNM. The two of us will undoubtedly move in together. Would you rather that we lie to you guys? Of course not honey, but it all seems a little sudden. I believe that you and Max are meant to be. Ive come to accept that, but Im worried that maybe Max asked you, and that you were caught up in the moment without thinking things through, Jeff sighed. Well, that would be a little impossible since I was the first one to propose. What? I asked Max to marry me first, but then he pulled out his ring. Apparently, just as I had planned on proposing to him, he planned on proposing to me too. Breaking her silence, Claudia stood up, pulling Liz into a hug. Well congratulations, honey bear. She whispered into Lizs ear, so that she was the only one to hear. You make me proud, sweetheart, and I dont think you couldve done better than Max. Hes your soul mate, Lizzie. Dont let anyone or anything stand in the way of that. Not even your parents. Lizs head bobbed against her shoulder. Claudia pulled away, quietly excusing herself into the living room while Jeff and Nancy continued their discussion with Liz. Liz wiped her palms against the denim of her jeans, her eyes asking her parents to understand. I know that this is a lot to spring on the two of you, considering you guys just got back, but I just wanted to be honest with the two of you before you heard from someone else. She gave a bitter laugh. I know all too well how things can get twisted around, and how ugly it can turn out.....I know that you guys may not understand what I have with Max, but even I cant explain it. When he goes home at night, I cant help but feel a part of me hurting, like its physically impossible for me to be away from him. It breaks my heart that I cant feel his arms around me when I sleep, that he and Noah live in a separate house from me. That each and every night, the three of us have to part ways because we still live under our parents roof, and that a simple legality like marriage keeps the three of us from being a family....I know I probably sound selfish, but I cant keep doing this. It feels like Im tearing out a piece of my heart every time we part ways....You may not agree with what we want to do, but theres nothing you can do to stop us. Max and I are going to get married, regardless of what anyone has to say.... A sob escaped her lips, as she finished her speech. But I just want you guys to know, that Ive always wanted the two of you to be present at my wedding. I could never imagine not having you guys there, giving me your support.....But I would understand if you guys....if you would prefer not to be there.. Nancy stood up, her chair falling behind her as she dashed towards Liz. She pulled her into a tight embrace, unable to let her go. Your father and I could never do that. If this is whats going to make you happy, well just have to suck it up. She cupped Lizs face in her hands, a sad smile on her lips. I dont want to lose you over something like this. Jeff walked slowly to his girls, enveloping them in his arms. He placed a kiss on Nancys head, moving to place a kiss on Lizs temple. Im still....I agree with your mother, but...can you give me a little more time?....I just cant believe that youre not my little girl anymore. He squeezed them a little tighter, his voice turning into a hushed whisper. Just give me a little more time, and come June, Ill be there to walk you down the aisle. Back Next |
