Dorothy Barr Shaver sent me this picture of the graduating class of 1906. Her mother, Nellie Mendenhall Barr is pictured on the far left.
None of the school histories mention any graduating class prior to the high school receiving its commission in 1908 so this came as a real surprise.
In 1981, we honored Nellie Mendenhall Barr for being in the 75 year class. Her son Robert Barr was in the 50 year class that year. I had brought a Barbershop Quartet down from Terre Haute, to entertain us, and Her Majesty My Mother, just happened to be one of the songs they sang. To make the evening perfect they spotted Mrs. Barr, and thought she looked like the ideal picture of a mother or grandmother, so they walked over and surrounded her and sang the song to her, never knowing we were giving her special honors that evening.
