Trail Place--This site is absolutely incredible in its usefulness in preparing for any kind of hike of the Appalachian Trail. It includes forums (one for thru-hikers and another for section-hikers) that allows people to ask and answer questions of each other or to simply discuss gear options and all matters related to the trail. It also includes a database of persons who are willing to provide shuttle services to and from the trail. Since I began thinking of hiking the A.T., I have been going to this site almost daily.

Trail Journals--Trailjournals is just what it sounds like--it allows members to post online journals of their hiking experiences. You can post your own journals so that others can follow your hike or you can read about others who are currently on the trail or who have already completed their hike. You can also browse through hundreds of photographs taken from the trail. This site is very easy to use--your friends and family will really enjoy reading about your experiences while on the trail!

Appalachian Trail Conference (ATC)--The Appalachian Trail Conference is the organization that has been responsible for coordinating the volunteer efforts to maintain the Appalachian Trail. Their website offers a wealth of information on the trail, organized by state, and also allows you to become a member or even to help in maintaining the trail. They offer tips and advice to those planning a day- or thru-hike and give links to trail organizations and clubs. Please be sure to support the ATC--they do so much to protect the trail.

ATC Trail Store--The Ultimate Trail Store for the Appalachian Trail Conference is a great resource for those seeking information and publications about the trail. You can purchase individual trail guides and maps or even complete sets, as well as guides for planning an extended trip on the A.T. The store also sells gifts and t-shirts.
