I am a Class Lab Engineer for IBM Learning Services.  If you took computer classes from IBM, then Class Lab Engineering (CLE) most likely prepared and supported the software you used during class.

what ibm class lab engineering does

Class Lab Engineering is the technical team for IBM Learning Services.  Before class starts, they get an image ready for the class.  To prepare an image, we:

1. Install all of the software for the class onto one of our test computers.
2. Install the class materials � instructor presentations, lab files, etc.
3. Configure the software to work with the class.
4. Prepare the computer to be captured by generalising the installation.
5. Capture the software as an image.
6. Test the image.

After the image is ready, we either FTP the image to the site where the class is running or burn the image to CD and mail the CD to the site. 

what i do in addition to standard class lab engineering

I do some extra things for CLE in addition to images.  I have been drafted at various times to:

1. Write programs to simplify or improve the CLE imaging process.
2. Write documentation.
3. Do in-class support.
4. Install classes.
5. Build servers.
6. Maintain servers.
