Pregnancy Journal
December 24th: Felt car sick for the first time in my adult life.  Later found out that's an early sign of pregnancy.
April 23: Today we had our 20 week ultrasound.  She's 13 oz, measuring a little big, and seems to like to stretch out.  Looks like she'll have some long legs.  Jason could tell she was a girl before the technician told us.  We stopped by the store on the way home and picked up a pink and purple footed sleeper, our first piece of baby clothing. Now on to finding a name...
January 6th: Afternoon, curiousity finally got the best of me.  Took a home pregnancy test.  Two lines...it's positive!  Called Jason at work to see if he wanted to meet me for dinner.  Drove down to his store and showed him the test as soon as he got in the car.  Instead we drove home, took another pregnancy test, and then went to dinner.
April 28: At 9 this morning I felt the first strong kick that could be felt from the outside.
January 9th: Drove to the fertility specialist's office in Manhattan, KS to take a blood pregnancy test.  Nurse said I was "definitely pregnant".
April 29: As I was settling into bed she started rolling around.  It felt like I had lost my stomach, like going down a hill very fast.
January 27th: First prenatal appointment.  Progesterone level: 15.3  Should be 20 or more but it's not dangerously low.  Doctor is optimistic that everthing will be fine.
May 12: Great news...she's perfect, chubby cheeks and all.  And she's still a she.  Heart is great, placenta moved up, and she is very active.  She did two full feet-over-head summersaults which took her from a breech to head-down position.  She also stuck her tongue out at us and waved her hand.  Dr. measured her feet at 1 1/2 inches.
February 4: Follow-up progesterone test. Progesterone level: 19.8.  Doctor is very happy with the increased level.  No more tests will be necessary.
February 5: Starting to crave potato chips and deli sandwiches.
May 14: Jason finally felt his first kick.
May 21: 10:30 AM  Jason and I sat and watched the baby kick.  We put things like a remote control and Jason's watch on my belly and watched them jump around.
February 8: Smells are still bothering me. Especially hot foods.  "Aunt Maggie" bought baby socks with rattles attached.  I bought the baby's first pair of shoes.
February 9: All-day sickness hits hard!
May 26: Appetite seems to have decreased.  Probably because she's pressing on my stomach.  I've noticed the past few days that I'm tired all day long.  Guess the energy surge of the 2nd trimester is starting to fade.  Rachel continues to kick throughout the day.
February 26: Stomach pressure, back pain, and more sickness.
March 1: Waist has gained 9-inches!  Gained my first 10 pregnancy pounds.
March 5: Another bad "all-day sickness" day.
June 9: Waist has increased from 28" to 41 3/4"!!!
March 17: For the past two days I've been having the stretching pains (round ligament pain) similar to what I felt around the 4th to 5th weeks.  Guess the baby is going through a growth spurt.
June 16: Took the gestational diabetes test.  Not as bad as some girls had told me.  The drink tastes exactly like Sunkist orange soda - only sweeter.  I think I got a bit of a sugar rush.  Test results came back negative.  25 pregnancy lbs gained.
March 21: My mom had a dream that I had boy and girl twins.  Maggie had a dream that I had a boy.  We had been so patient to find out the sex but now we're hoping we'll be able to set up another ultrasound at our next prenatal appointment.
July 2: At this morning's prenatal appointment the doctor found that my blood pressure is measuring a little high, 130/80.  I'll have to monitor at home.
July 20: Really starting to get uncomfortable.  Baby likes to squish her feet up into my ribcage and my skin feels like it can't stretch any further.  Update from last prenatal appointment:  My blood pressure has lowered, 120/65, so monitoring at home is no longer necessary.
March 22: 10:00 AM, felt first movement (thumps, kicks) very low and center.
March 25: We had our 3rd prenatal appointment.  An ultrasound to determine the sex has been set up for April 23rd.
March 29: 13 pregnancy pounds gained.
August 11: No dilation or effacement yet. Doctor was unable to tell if she is in a head-down position so another ultrasound may be ordered in the next couple of weeks.  Having some contractions off and on so I'm hoping she's making some progress.
April 4: As I was settling into bed I felt more flutters.  After a week of feeling no movement this was a relief.
April 11: 8:30 PM  Admitted to the ER for severe upper abdominal pressure, mid to upper back pain, and couldn't keep anything down.  Treated for dehydration and gallbladder and pancrease were tested.  Everything turned out fine.
August 19: Still no dilation or effacement yet, but this time the doctor could feel the top of Rachel's head.  She's guessing I'll deliver in the next 2 weeks.  Belly is measuring 1 1/2 weeks ahead and baby weighs 6lbs 10oz.  Estimated birth weight is 7lbs 10oz.
April 12: 2:00 PM  Had an appointment with the obstatrician to find the heartbeat.  The ER doctors were unable to find it the night before.  Heartbeat is strong and we could pick up movement on the dopplar.
August 26: No dilation yet, but the cervix is softening.  The obstetrician stripped the membranes (separated the amniotic sac from the uterus) to help move things along.  Rachel is weighing about 7lbs 2oz.
April 13: Waist has gained 11 inches.  17 pregnancy pounds gained.  I've been told I'm in the middle of one of the largest growth spurts.
April 16: Still feeling movement somewhat frequently.  Especially in the morning and late at night, sometimes after meals.  No hard kicks yet, just a strong fluttering (like a muscle spasm) or feels like the baby is squirming.
