Mountain Bike Unit (MBU)
MBU is a trained volunteer patrol unit in the Santa Monica mountain parks since 1987. It was initially sponsored by CORBA (Concerned Off-Road Bicyclists Association), but became an independent organization, even though CORBA still provides financial support.
The mission is to improve the experience quality of all visitors in the parks by providing useful park information, trail directions, and help when needed. Also the unit inform visitors of the park regulations in a friendly way so that all visitors could enjoy the park while preserving the valuable but fragile resources, as well as try to minimize possible conflicts between mountain bikers and other trail users (hikers, equestrians, etc) by helping both parties to understand each other and help to obey the regulations. MBU volunteeres are trained for the first aid, CPR, and Radio procedures as well as visitor contact skills.
If you might be interested in MBU, contact Joe
Dillman via e-mail or at (818) 706-2789 days or (805) 495-3995. Training
sessions for new MBU members happen early every spring. Suggested voluntary
patrol commitment is 8 hours per month and a bimonthly (every other month)
meeting on the first Wednesdays. For further information, go to the MBU
web page at CORBA.
