Chinatown
In the early 1800s, Raffles had designated the area southwest of the Singapore River to the chinese.
The area included Telok Ayer Street, China Street, Chulia Street, Circular Road, South Bridge Road, Temple Street, Pagoda Street and Mosque Street.
In the early period, the chinese immigrants had to make to do with the cramped living conditions.However, now,Chinatown has been restored,and living conditions have definitely improved.
Chinatown still remains an aera of rich Chinese culture. |

Little India
In early Singapore, the early Indians lived in Chulia Streer near Chinatown.
However, most of them settled to the present Little India.
Today,Little India remains the heart of activity of the Indian communtiy here. Here, you can experience the sights and ways of living of the Indian community. |
