First Annual S.A.G. Festival!!!

The Helsinki skyline, this could be yours March 21, 2004...

7 September 2003 ---JOURNAL ENTRY TWENTY-FOUR---

An English teacher is a nice life, so far. I'm accorded more freedom than is normal for men my age (29 for you bastahds who've lost count!) and I intend to take advantage of it as much as possible. Thus the idea for the "First Annual S.A.G Festival".

What does "S.A.G." stand for? Well, let's not beat around the bush. It means "shits and giggles", a term I learned for my pops which something to the effect 'for no reason', i.e., let's meet in helsinki for shits and giggles. Can ya dig? Now listen, I think most everyone who reads will not go and that's all right. Hell, maybe something will come up and I can't go but I plan to be in Helsinki, Finland on Sunday, March 21, 2004, the first day of spring to celebrate life...

the train station in Helsinki...

I figure if I/we could get at least 10 people who wanted to meet there then I could organize a walking tour of the city for us in English and even a daytrip to somewhere like Parvoo that of course isn't obligatory. I don't like being told what is on the agenda for my traveling day and so I wouldn't oppress anyone into it but I'll put it together for some people who think it'll sound like fun. What will really happen in Helsinki? Well, we'll all stay in the same hotel most likely and for a couple of days our lives will be entertained/entertaining, great for 'shits and giggles'. That's really all the information I have now but it's six months away, six months that will slide through time pretty quickly. I'd say you need to make the beginnings of a decision in two weeks, the first day of fall. That would give you 5+ months to save and scrap money together and before you know it we're drinking an overpriced beer freezing our butt off laughing at the wonderful drives we occasionally take life on instead of vice versa .

So I know this is a short journal entry but I'm a busy kid with plenty to do but I wanted to plant the ideas into people's heads. Your question: Why Helsinki? I have a simple answer for that and it's this: for my spring holiday next year I'm going to do a 2-week trip of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuiania and Helsinki, just across the Gulf of Finland from Estonia seemed a great place to start. So, after a couple of days in Helsinki I'll be taking off for the rest of my trip but you can have your own trip planned as well, perhaps a week or ten days checking out Stockholm and Helsinki or something, ya know? Well, beautiful Sunday to you and if you see my mom, give her a big hug and tell her that I love her, ok?
