Exactly Two

XMAS, MOONEY, NEW YEAR'S, AMSTERDAM, UPDATES...

14 January 2005 ---JOURNAL ENTRY THIRTY-SIX---

Friday, 12:47pm. It has been exactly two years since I arrived in Europe to live here. It's ridiculous to think how many things have happened since that time so here is a very quick breakdown:arrived, went to Czech Republic, visited Prague, Berlin, moved Assiyeah's stuff to Freiburg, found an apartment, got some work, went to Heidelberg, went to Dresden and Berlin, to Zurich and Bern and then 10 days in Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, got some new classes, Chris, KC and Russ came to visit, went home for Xmas, came back and went to Cologne, then Amsterdam, Corrie came to visit and then Strasbourg and then Berlin and then Padua, Italy and Venice and then Rome (doing a little bit of work the whole time of course!), then to Gregg and Masha's wedding in Zaporizhzhya, Ukraine, then Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, then to Obernai, France, came home for Amy's wedding, went to Vegas and then Chicago, then went to Portugal and Salamanca, Spain, then to Oktoberfest with Zach, and then Cambridge for a weekend and then...

I had a great, but very full time at home for Xmas, got to see friends and family which was great, trying to rekindle friendships and then on the 29th of December flew back and met John Mooney in Frankfurt and he came to stay with me for 2 weeks. We had a kick ass time for New Year's and then went to Amsterdam for 4 days and then hung out here the rest of the time, checking out the local area and just hanging, ya know? Now he's gone and the year of 2005 is staring me in the face. Assiyeah is leaving for Cambridge in 2.5 weeks and will be gone until July 1st or so. Of course we'll see each other off and on but it's going to be tough because the reason I came here to Germany was because of her. However, I had begun to develop my own life and friends here so it shouldn't be a catastrophe but rather a little test for our relationship. Not really, but you know, we haven't really been that much apart in a long time so it'll be tough.

Project Snakk om Flaks is still underway. Unfortunately we haven't been able to incur much interest in the project yet but we still have time. I have been doing many small things to try and get a little bit of steam before we hit the home stretch of April but Maya is in Norway and so it's made it a bit tougher to make the kind of progress I would like but I am still writing only in Norwegian and it should make a bit of an interesting book I think. If you're from Norway and reading this, please email me and maybe we can talk some more about my project, in your language!

I had the urge to change my desk around. I get that feeling every few months but I think I'll wait until Assiyeah goes to England so she doesn't have to stress about what I'm doing with all of our stuff! I do want to reduce some of my pack-ratedness if possible but the problem is I'm so good at collecting little memories it looks like my whole life is just a collection of little memories pinned to the wall, ya know? A general cleaning and scaling down of my life is on the agenda for the next couple of months. I am still working on my photography, a bit overwhelmed while reading about how to publish your photography but I'm still serious about it but getting a good portfolio together is not as easy as I thought, and while I'm organized to a certain level, this spiritual cleaning of life will allow me to make more room for the bigger things, that's the problem. I have so many little things in my life that it's hard to fit in the big things. However, I don't want to make so much space that I feel it necessary to find new things to fill the space. There is already a waiting list of things to get in, I just need to figure out how to get to them!

Also, the Rams are in the playoffs and I'm super stoked! I got to watch the last few games and they have been quite satisfying. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to watch tomorrow's game because it starts at 2am here but the bar next to me said, okay, you can stay til 5am but only because we know where you live! Haha, fair enough!
