Into The Wild

In the early 90’s Chris McCandless graduated college, gave away all of his possessions and began a journey from Georgia to Alaska . Along the way he meets other “tramp” and hippies. Ultimately he gets to Alaska and dies of starvation. I am not giving anything away because this is based on a book and true story. This is also Sean Penn’s directorial debut.

I never really got into this. It’s a neat idea for someone else to do. Chris believes in absolute freedom from everything and ultimately achieves that. It’s a nice idea and maybe good for you as long as you don’t die like he did. I’m just not really into hippies, although “why is it people with long hair are good like Jesus and Hippies and Rod Stewart”, I just get kind of warn out by the whole give away all of your money and play guitar and eat berries thing. That’s just me. Everyone I talked to that is Chris’s age, or would have been if he didn’t go off to Alaska and not eat, thought it was great. So there might be something to that generation liking this movie. It’s funny, if you had asked me last week which I thought I like better Ben Affleck’s first movie or Sean Penn’s, I would have been wrong
