Christian Bale plays Dieter who is a US fighter pilot that is shot down over Laos during the Vietnam on his first mission. He is captured and put in a prisoner of war camp. He devises a plot to escape but then must survive the harsh jungle before being rescued. This is a true story so no get mad and think I'm giving the plot away. Steve Zahn also stars in his first, that I can think of, dramatic role. The movie is directed by Werner Herzog and has a very European feel. The pacing can be slow at times and the editing is unique. It's not bad, it's just different. Who doesn't like a movie about soldiers escaping and being rescued? When they are escaping from the camp it is so intense. I can't imagine that feeling of there is no turning back. Good, uplifting movie. I know my dad will by this on dvd and annoy the neighbors with the surround sound.
