Rendition

During the Clinton Era the US adopted a policy that if there was any reason to believe someone was a terrorist and not a US Citizen then they could be taken to another country and tortured for information. So in the movie the government takes this Egyptian guy who is married to Reese Witherspoon because he got calls on his cell phone from a terrorist. The American heading up the interrogation is Jake Gyllenhaal. The movie asks a lot of questions about our current policies and makes you feel bad for tortured Egyptians. This sounds pretty good doesn’t it? Pretty good cast right? Well it’s not horrible, but it’s not that great. Everything about it is very surface and not very deep. It’s an interesting subject matter and one that you can see both sides of. Overall I just think it could have been better. This is also where supposedly Gyllenhaal and Witherspoon hooked up, but they don’t have one scene together and he’s gay. |
